Brief:
For sale is my 1990 Mini Cooper RSP. This Mini is 1 of only 1, 050 original RSPs produced for Britain, with a total of 1, 650 worldwide. There was only around 600 built in this beautiful British Racing Green. With its characteristic sunroof and red interior, the Cooper RSP was the special, relaunch edition for the classic Mini which had been absent since the 1960s. Designed by John Cooper himself, the RSP became an instant success and one of the most collectable Mini’s of its time.
Restoration:
My Dad and I bought this car in 2015, and we spent 7 years stripping it to a shell and restoring it to its original condition. It has been fully stripped, restored and rebuilt less than 4 years ago. It has had an MOT since being finished and is being sold with a MOT with no advisories, which is valid from February 2025. Having been stored indoors and only driven occasionally since being restored, the bodywork does not have any rust, and the car runs perfectly. Below is an overview of the main jobs which had been done on the car during its restoration.
• All rusted/ damaged panels replaced – genuine parts used where possible. This includes half the floor pan, new boot floor, side A-panels, and many more.
• A new rear subframe fitted
• Bottom of the car has been painted with heavy-duty anti-rust paint to protect from future rust
• New exhaust fitted,
• New paint job in its original colour with the addition of the John Cooper signature, Mini Cooper logos and pin stripes being painted on instead of stickers as normal. This gives a more refined and professional finish to the bodywork.
• Refitted and tidied electrical loom
• New chrome body parts where required
• Original interior cleaned and refitted – front seats have been replaced by the previous owner with much more comfortable seats complete with the Mini Cooper logo stitched into them in red to match the rest of the interior. These seats are electrically heated, they just need the wiring to be completed.
• Each part has been individually cleaned, treated and repainted/ restored before a full reassembly.
• New, non-original rims fitted. The wheels which came with the car also come with this car purchase in an un-refurbished state but are sadly not the original RSP rims. The fitted tyres have less than 1000 miles on them so are practically new.
• New fuel tank fitted
• New ceiling liner to match the existing
With 104, 000 miles on the clock (only around 1, 000 miles since the restoration), the car starts without problems, runs perfectly and is very fun to drive. Other than a few dials not working, this is possibly one of the best examples of a Mini Cooper RSP remaining. It is the perfect classic car to take out and enjoy while also being an excellent investment as the value of rare Minis continues to increase.
