Description
Aesthetically original with enormous character, loads of work done to keep it usable and reliable.
Engine: running on electronic ignition (points included as spare). 4 stud heads fitted at some point in its life, new exhaust fitted in 2024. New pistons, rings & barrels fitted in 2025 alongside new oil seals, re-lapped valves and full service.
Gearbox: refurbished professionally in 2023 by "Gearbox Guru" Rick Pembro.
Brakes: drums cleaned and pipes, cylinders and shoes replaced throughout in 2023.
Body: separated from chassis in 2023 when the underside from the rear seats backwards was stripped bare, patched where necessary and repainted. Main floor panels beneath the front two seats are in fair condition, but could be improved.
Chassis: apparently original but rust free and undamaged.
Tyres: all 5 are correct 400mm Michelins dated to 2021, on the rare and original 400mm 2cv rims.
Interior: seat covers replaced with a new set (including rubber springs), steering wheel wrapped in cord, but otherwise very original. Obviously a former barn find, this car was found in France and taken to the UK around 2019. I bought the car in late 2022, by which point it hadn't yet been registered for UK roads. I went through that process with the DVLA and set about refurbishing everything it needed to make it usable, obviously without compromising its incredible patina.
Its history in France is a mystery, only the old tax discs affixed to the windscreen seem to suggest that it was last on French roads in 1989. The chassis number dates it as a 1954, though it's more likely that the body is from the late 1950s, as evidenced by the blue paint and boot lid. The original set of hand-painted plates read "935 RB 63" and remain with the car.
It is a slow, creaky and wonderfully characterful car. Although care has been taken to make it as reliable and useable as an early 2cv can be, it should be understood that it is still a mid-50s economy car and will need to be handled with due care and patience.
