Description
1928 Cadilla La Salle 7 seater Sedan Fisher body
Fitted with a 303 cubic-inch 5ltr flathead v8.
This car was originated from Pennsylvania which is where it spent most of its time. It was originally refurbished in 1973 by a Mr Stanley Royer who owned the car for 30yrs, where it was then trailered to shows and it picked up many awards. Including 1st in the Eastern National Fall Hershey 1974 and National Spring Frederick, Maryland Senior Tab 1975. The car still has the tags displayed on the front.
The car was then shipped to Northamptonshire Uk by a gentleman who's wife fell in love with it on a visit to America. Unfortunatly due to circumstances out of their control they was unable to use it and it sat in dry storage until we bought it in 2015. The vehicle is very impressive and we fell in love with it. It was in great condition for its age and we decided we would put some time and effort getting it into the condition it sits today.
The interior is in fantastic condition with no signs of wear. We believe it was restored in 1973 and has not been touched since. It's finished in green/ silver cloth which includes seats, roof lining, door cards and carpets. The middle two seats fold forward to allow for a footrest for the rear seats and ample amounts of room. Also it has silk pull down blinds and the very rare original pillar vases. All woodwork is in lovely condition and all the windows can be wound down and the windscreen can be lifted and front footwell vents for those hotter days. When we used it we used mats to make sure no damage was done to the carpets.
3 years ago we decided it was time to freshen the paint up, so the panels where stripped off and it underwent a very thorough bare metal respray with no expense spared. We decided to put it back close to its original colours with a 2 tone grey with a slight hint of green finished off with a green pinstripe. The underside is as good as the top. The wheels also where stripped back to bare metal and colour matched to the body. These are finished of with the original La Salle locking hub caps and chrome ring which really finish them off.
All the chrome is in wonderful condition throughout with no signs of pitting, flaking or fading. It has the additional radiator guard which we believe not to be original but we feel it really sets the car off.
It has 2 top mounted side lights with the larger headlights at the front and 2 lower lights which are all original. It has the single tail / brake light which light up 'La Salle' when lit which is also original.
With the 5ltr flathead V8 it can keep up with modern traffic and with the large 14" rear and 16" front drum brakes it stops efficiently.
The gear box is 3 forward - 1 reverse with a twin plate clutch and functions really well.
The engine runs very nice and picks up very well. In our ownership we have refurbished the carburettor, distributor, water pump and generator just to ensure good running. Also it has had the standard plugs, leads, points and coil etc, aswell as numerous oil changes on the engine, gearbox and rear differential in our time. It still runs on its original vacuum system which we have found to be much better and also its original 6v system.
The box on the back is not original but has been made to a very good standard and is a great size to keep a picnic basket and blanket to enjoy a day out. There is room under the front seats to keep a few tools where we currently have a few original tools in.
We have lots of documentation for this vehicle from previous owners, shipping, registration, manuals etc. We have records from Cadillac Historical Services which show the matching numbers when built. We also have confirmation from Antique Automobile for the shows it won many years ago. We have documented all the work we have carried out with receipts and a usb showing it's bare metal respray and much more. Many spares are also included for the engine and bodywork including spare headlight lens which are very rare.
We have owned this car for 10 years and put a lot of time, love and care into it. We have taking it to many local shows and enjoyed days out with the children and grand children all in one car. Being an American car it is a real head turner and you are guaranteed to be the only one like it at a show and creates lots of interesting conversations with people you would never have met. Also the American car clubs are really growing and you get to see some incredible vehicles and events and meet some great people. Unfortunatly due to age and having the time to use it we have decided its time to let someone else enjoy it. It has a real wow factor in person due to its size and lovely condition.
The car is based in Hampshire Uk and is open to serious viewings any time - week days preferredWe originally bought this car as we found it very impressive with its size and stance. A truly beautiful car to look at. You can fit the whole family in it and enjoy a good day out and still keep up with modern traffic
