Description
Hello, good afternoon and happy Sunday!
I will start with the reason for selling: I barely use it as it sleeps in my garage/ car port and it is blocked, so to go out is a big faff + the usage of the space as a "mechanic's garage" does not make the wife happy. So I suppose I will have to have a new house before I have a bike again... I might accept offers, also add my barely used gear set. I would happily ride it to you (the further away the better) and come back by train :)
Thanks!
My bike: Honda CB550 K 1975 (Imported from USA I think in 1998, I bought it from the first UK owner). The bike was manufactured in December 1975, so the model is 1976.
What I did (all brand new parts):
- replaced all electrics with motogadget m. unit blue (the unit failed after literally a few rides, rain and a drained battery after a long holiday might have contributed... As I barely use the bike, this happened more than 1 year after I bought the unit, so warranty expired :() I've replaced with a more simple and robust solution "- details above". This is together, underneath the seat in an electric tray, with the new rectifier.
- every bulb now is LED
- replaced fork springs (Hagon)
- replaced rear shocks (Hagon)
- replaced tail light
- replaced turn signal lights (motogadget)
- replaced exhaust 4 into 1 (Delkevic)
- added hondaman ignition
- new starter solenoid
- new regulator rectifier (accepts any type of battery)
- replaced coils, leads, spark plugs
- oil, oil filter, pan gasket
- replaced seat (not OEM as can't find a new one)
- replaced airbox covers (bike came with broken ones) (OEM)
- removed center stand (don't have it anymore)
- replaced all levers and switches (motogadget) and handlebar (OEM for model F)
- replaced rear view mirrors (bike came with wrong ones) (OEM from Japan)
- refurbished brake caliper (DS kit)
- replaced master cylinder (NISSIN Radial)
- new Brembo pads
- replaced brake lines and removed the brake line splitter
- removed the original air filter using a handcut panel filter (ramair)
- new rear tyre Avon RoadRider MKII 4. 00-18
- new front tyre Michelin Road Classic 3. 25-19 (can't find the Avon ones anymore it seems :( )
What I did poorly:
- handlebar motogadget buttons do not have the best ergonomy (I had a hard time drilling holes for them), because of that, I had to trim the new original grips....
- front forks refurb: when I did a full refurb and replaced the spring, the seals where not OEM (from Honda classics), later on I was told that is common that they will leak.
- the d-box seats on an electrics tray. Poor designed by me as it covers the airbox, so to reach the filter, you need to remove it.
- I did do a carb balance, but it needs a full cleaning, maybe a refurb.
The bike starts/ rides/ behaves flawlessly, the brakes I can say are now excellent. It looks like and old bike, as it is dirty and needs new paint all around, currently there are no leaks (oil), as petrol will leak if the petcock is open. No TAX and no MOT required.
I got a few bits that would go with the bike too (bought and never used or that I would not need without a bike): extra brake disc as I thought I would need to convert to double disc, oil, tools, new shock bushes, speed and throttle cable, etc.
