First registered in 2021, this car passed the IVA with complements from the assessor, and you can see why… attention to detail, meticulousness and complete professionalism went into building this cobra. Make no mistake this is NOT your average amateur build.
The fibreglass body and kit was supplied by AK Sportscars in Yaxley, Peterborough. It was assembled by the current owner who is of an engineering background with over 40 years’ experience in engineering and sheet metal work, specialising in stainless steel, hence the SS artwork throughout the car. Engine, Gearbox & Running gear
- 1968 Ford 302 block, built from a bare block with all new internals (see photos).
- Cylinders bored out to +30 thou by John Sleath Racing.
- Steel stroker crankshaft 347ci with H beam con rods & forged aluminium pistons.
- AFR Aluminium cylinder heads.
- Oversized sump.
- Edelbrock RPM Performer intake manifold & 750 CFM Holley vacuum secondaries carburettor.
- Billet steel flywheel.
- ARP fasteners used throughout the engine build.
- All rotating parts were dynamically balanced by John Sleath Racing.
- Getrag 265 5-speed Manual Gearbox (Jaguar) which has been rebuilt with uprated bearings by Neil at All Gears.
- American Centre Force dual friction clutch & pressure plate.
- Primarily based on Jaguar XJS including a facelift Jaguar 3. 5 4:1 Powerloc differential, considered to be the best differential for this application.
- Big brake disc conversion on the front with Brembo four pot aluminium callipers.
- Inboard brake discs on the rear axle as per Jaguar XJS design.
- Spotless 17 Inch Hallibrand replica wheels made by Image Wheels with Toyo Proxes tyres, all with good tread.
Body & Interior
- Gen 1 AK 427 Fibreglass body, painted by Fibreglass paint specialists SMS Auto Spray in Ferrari Grigio Titano complemented by Wimbledon white stripes, All in A1 condition.
- AK seats, dashboard & door cards which have been matched in Andrew Muirhead leather, all in immaculate condition.
- Smith’s electronic gauges with radius bezels.
- Black carpet throughout, in as new condition.
- Willans three-point harnesses, again in immaculate condition.
- Custom CNC engraved Billet steering wheel centre, on a Mota Lita steering wheel.

- Engine bay completely lined with SS.
Subsequently, it drives as well as it looks and with approximately 360 BHP at the rear wheels and weighing in at only 1100kg it will not disappoint the new owner. On top of all this goodness, it will come with a fresh MOT (visual smoke test only and does not require an emissions test), it is also ULEZ compliant. It has only covered approximately 900 miles since the build, it was set up on a rolling road by respected engine guru John at John Sleath Racing, the mileage will increase slightly as the owner is still enjoying it.
