Description

Re-listing at a lower price to reflect current market conditions.

I am open to discussing offers with the right buyer (a lover of MGs!)

Reason for sale - funds needed for wedding and it’s one of two classics.

WhatsApp or text me on the details below and I’ll send you more photos, videos, underside photos and bills etc.

120 BHP Fast-Road, Chrome-Bumper Roadster with overdrive.

Stage 3 Engine, only 8000 miles since re-build at Skiptune in 2022. 75, 000 miles total on the Odometer.

Full Body Restoration in 2011. Bodyshell in great condition. Always kept garaged.

Upgraded front suspension.

Ready to drive to the South of France! Silver minilite (minotaur made in England) knock-off wheels also available with the car if black wire wheels not to your liking.

Superb condition, a very fast, beautifully driving MGB.

Any inspections most welcome. Meet Phoenix, my fast-road MGB. With her full restoration, upgraded engine and front suspension, she is possibly the best-driving non-race roadster in the country.

£15, 000 of upgrades done to the highest standard since 2022.

I have owned the car for several years and kept her upgraded and maintained to the highest standard regardless of cost.

WEU380L has the following upgrades:

120 bhp stage 3 engine (with dyno read-out from Harding Autos). Since this, she has had a new performance distributor and a good tune-up, so estimated BHP is in fact 125 BHP!!! (120 hp achieved on a dodgy, dying distributor!)

One of the last engines re-built by Peter at Skiptune, he upgraded the already good engine with:

- Piper 285 Steel Billet Camshaft
- New Plugs
- Bores de-glazed
- New piston rings +20 (1822cc)
- New Bearings
- New Oil Pump
- Duplex Diming Chain
- New Cam followers
- Crankshaft polished
- Valves cleaned
- Relapped Valves/ Vale Seats
- New Stem Seals

The engine also has:
- 1822cc overbore
- Big Valves
- Double Valve Springs
- Ported and polished intakes and exhaust passages
- Balanced crankshaft
- Lightened Flywheel
- Original Italian Weber 45 DCOE fully tuned and set up
- Barwell Inlet Manifold
- Big Bore free-flow exhaust manifold with long middle-branch
- Superb sounding Maniflow racing exhaust (not too loud, but a wonderful sound when you put your foot down).
- Performance distributor
- Upgraded coil pack
- Fuel pressure regulator
- Facet Fuel Pump

The engine oil stays beautifully clean even 1000 miles after a service, and oil pressure is excellent. The engine runs beautifully smoothly, and you could drive it to the South of France and not worry about oil consumption.

Being a Stage 3+ engine the real power is 3000 RPM - 6500 RPM, but it's still decently tractable for pootling around town with plenty of torque available through most of the rev range.

The engine was professionally run-in by Harding Auto Services on their rolling road to ensure longevity of the rebuild. I run a foam filter over the trumpet intakes (as well as the gauzes) for longevity too.

The engine suffers from no clunks and no plinking, not even under heavy load.
Compressions are excellent, all around 180 PSI (high compression engine).
It pulls strongly and revs smoothly and cleanly. Great for joining motorways down the slip road or overtaking.

The front suspension was upgraded by Hardings too, with:
- Upgraded 3/ 4 Anti-Roll Bar
- Upgraded stiffer springs
- New standard shocks (best for road use)
- All new polybushes, nuts, bolts etc.

It handles absolutely superbly, like a go-cart.

The car also benefits from 15-inch black wire wheels with sticky Yokohoma tyres with the spare in the boot. A set of 14 inch knock-on Minilites comes with the car. She stops straight and quickly too, with servo-assisted disk brakes on the front.

Mohair roof.
Mohair full tonneau.

There is a small crack in the paintwork by one of the hood studs.

* Please note that just before its full restoration, the car was involved in a small prang denting the front bumper and door. Due to the condition (the car was in need of restoration), the owner - Mr Clarke of Crickhowell, decided to claim and thus she - annoyingly - has a Category C. Mr Clarke then lovingly subjected the MG to a full comprehensive body restoration (would cost £30, 000 today!) with many new body panels, sills and everything you could wish for. The car was then owned by a Mr Watts of Abergavenny (not going very far!) She is waxoyled underneath, but this hides no rust, please scrape test away! Any inspection is welcome! Without the Cat C I would be listing her at £20, 000+ - she is much straighter and in much better condition than any old rust-bucket out there!

She also has:

- Paddy Hopkirk racing accelerator pedal (great for downshifts)
- Leather motolita steering wheel (wooden steering wheel included in the sale)
- Current seats are from an earlier car, as I am 6'4 and these give lots of room for the tall driver.
- Battery cut-off.
- Several boxes of spares should you wish.
- Serviced every 3000 miles with Valvoline VR1.
- Valve clearances checked every 3000 miles.
