Description
With only three owners from new, this bike was used to the full by my oldest mate for 27 years between 1993 and 2020. Throughout its life, the bike has been routinely maintained, with everything meticulously recorded, meaning a comprehensive service history.
I have known the bike since 1993 and bought it in 2020 when my mate became seriously ill, with plans for a full restoration, whilst keeping just a little of the patina of a well loved, used and rare motorcycle. I am a long-time Ducati owner and fanatic and I am happy this has been achieved.
The bike has been stripped and rebuilt with the help of several reputable industry specialists. Every component has been checked and either polished, refurbished, resprayed or replaced where necessary. The engine was fully rebuilt by Baines Racing in 2023, with every bearing replaced, including big end shells, gearbox, mains and camshafts. Camshafts were checked and showed no wear. New piston rings, new engine seals and cambelts fitted. Both cylinders bores were in excellent condition and still within specification and only needed honing. Two exhaust valves showed some degradation, so were replaced. Valves were reshimmed of course.
Both front and rear Őhlins suspension were completely refurbished with new springs and seals by B G Racing, Silverstone. The frame and all external engine parts were blasted and powder coated by Redditch Shotblasting.
The following is a summary of some of the other work completed:
• New steering head bearings
• Hydraulic brake hoses replaced
• Rear brake master cylinder overhauled
• New braided stainless steel oil lines
• New Ducati alloy clutch basket, springs & anodised alloy pressure plate
• Oberon clutch slave cylinder and new braided hose
• New chain & sprockets
• Custom made new front disc carriers (original cast iron discs retained) & new pads
• High performance battery & Exact-Start cables fitted
• Samco coolant hoses & clips fitted
• High pressure fuel hoses & clips replaced by JHP
• All 4 fuel injectors ultrasonically cleaned by JHP
• Remote hydraulic reservoir tubes and clips replaced
• Oil cooler fully flushed cleaned and resprayed
• Radiator core replaced by West Mercia Radiators and resprayed
• Exhaust system blasted and polished
Since full reconstruction & completion in May 2024 the engine has been running-in and sounds sweet. She comes with all original locks and 2 original keys, original manuals (1 signed by Giancarlo Falappa), workshop manuals and all the notes, paperwork and receipts as well as a photo album record of the recent full refurbishment.
Unlike so many Ducatis this one has not been stuck in a shed and unused. It needs no recommissioning. This bike shouldn’t be a museum piece and is priced to sell and hopefully be ridden. This is a high mileage machine (probably one of, if not, the highest of its type anywhere in the world). I have known the bike for 32 years and it has been well used and well maintained throughout its life. When I took it on in 2020 it had finally reached the point where simple servicing and routine maintenance were not enough and it had its first full strip down and rebuild of its life after over 90k miles - testimony to the build quality of this limited edition machine. It is in super condtion with no work needed. It is not concourse but is excellent and a thing of beauty. If you you look hard it shows some very small signs of its long and well used life - but seriously, not many!
