Description

Could there be anything more 1970s than Orange and Brown? Not to mention on and in a Peugeot 304 GL?
Welcome to the dizzying 1978 world of the Clockwork Orange…with brown interior.
I bought this car in 2020 near Bordeaux and drove it home to the UK. It had one owner before me who also owned a Gold 304 Estate, which he used as his everyday car. The clockwork orange has incredibly low kilometres of 33650 kilometres (20909 miles), and no rust. It hasn’t been restored and runs perfectly. It is a GL or ‘Grande Luxe’ model which was Peugeot speak for base model. That meant it had the (in my opinion) more stylish dashboard from the 204 and less equipment. It is in superb condition. There is some minor fading (but not disintegration) of the top of the rear bench, a repaired Gitane burn on the passenger’s seat (obviously, it was France in the 1970s…) but otherwise the interior is extraordinarily well preserved. The rubber floor mats (no carpets for the Grand Luxe, naturellement) are virtually unworn, as are the pedal rubbers, dashboard and door cards. Despite the appearance of the number plates, it is UK registered (TAO 921S) and is Road Tax/ Ulez exempt. Standard UK plates also included. It has very minor dings but remarkably few for a 47 year old car, testament to it always being garaged. There are a few touch ups in a less than appropriate colour match to the Orange Mandarine original paint, under the bonnet and above the indicators, but these are not really noticeable. The front wings and bonnet were resprayed due to fading some years before I bought it . Wheels were also repainted in the correct silver and look great. It comes with the original grey rubber winter ‘muff’ for the grille, the original handbook and folder, and both French and Italian specification front indicators. It was the condition, the mileage and the colour that had me buying a one way ticket to Bordeaux, and I think it would be near impossible to find another in such a combination. If it hasn’t sold before then, The Clockwork Orange will be wound up and rolled into the Festival of the Unexceptional. Surely a most deserving vehicle to be there, exotic Grande Luxe designation not withstanding. Viewing/ driving possible in Dorking.
