SOLD: 1993 (K-Registered) Mercedes-Benz 320CE Pre Merger AMG, Original, and Truly One-of-a-Kind
Offered for sale is an entirely original Mercedes-Benz 320CE, a genuine Pre Merger AMG example from 1993, finished to a truly immaculate standard and factory-fitted with the exceedingly rare Generation 1 AMG bodykit.
This exceptional vehicle is one of a handful believed to remain on the road today – a true unicorn for the discerning Mercedes collector or enthusiast. The AMG kit includes the iconic front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper, three-piece ducktail spoiler (engraved with "AMG"), and 17" AMG Aero I Monoblock alloy wheels – all factory-original.
The interior is a study in understated luxury, featuring supple original sport leather seats, a matching leather dashboard, and burr walnut trim throughout – all superbly preserved. Even finer details like the original floor mats with Mercedes logos, main dealer keyrings, and dealer stickers from Western Mercedes, Edinburgh remain with the car – a testament to its cherished provenance.
Mechanically and cosmetically, no expense has been spared. The car has undergone a full sympathetic restoration to factory specification by Edward Hall Mercedes of Oxford, widely regarded as one of the finest names in Mercedes-Benz restoration. Over £8, 000 was invested in returning the car to its original glory, including the use of authentic parts such as original brake and fuel lines.
The service history is unmatched, with a complete record from new to present day, including an extensive archive of documents neatly presented in folders – every detail from its first day on the road accounted for. Every one of the three owners of this car – myself included – has carefully contributed to its extraordinary documentation. All original Mercedes-Benz invoices, every MOT certificate (including every single one of those coloured window badges), and all recent servicing and parts invoices are present, organised chronologically.
In the original years, all servicing was carried out exclusively by Mercedes main dealers. During my ownership, the car has continued to be meticulously serviced and maintained. It has covered less than 5, 000 miles in the last four years.
In addition, the car has benefitted from a complete overhaul of its cooling system – including the radiator, fan clutch, all associated hoses, and coolant – all professionally replaced by WDM Mercedes of Sutton Coldfield, a respected independent specialist.
The entertainment system has been thoughtfully upgraded with a period-correct aesthetic: the car now features a Blaupunkt SQR 46 head unit paired with hard-to-source original-sized speakers fitted by Cambridge Car Audio – a discreet enhancement preserving the car’s original feel.
In keeping with its extraordinary originality, the car also comes complete with its original Mercedes-Benz maintenance tools, still neatly presented in their factory-issued tool bags in the boot – another rare and authentic detail not often found with cars of this vintage.
Purchased from Car & Classic for £20, 000 in 2021, the car has since had over £12, 000 invested into restoration and enhancement.
Some areas of restoration required bodywork wise. I have the replacement front wings for the car, but more work required in other areas which would bring it to original condition.
