Selling my Saab 900 T16S Convertible.
Metallic grey in colour with dark grey leather interior and black soft top.
Everything in good working order, cosmetically very nice with some age related marks, but lots of receipts come with the car, detailing restoration work and subtle modifications… long MOT, starts on the button, grey fun to drive and very rare as the Turbo S T16 model, only bettered by the Carlsson edition!
EXTERIOR:
The paintwork is holding up well, it has some minor flatting of the shine from sun damage, on the bonnet mainly, but it’s still shiny and polishes up well. Bumper corners all have scuffs, other odd marks and tiny bubble forming on the front right arch… wheels all good, lots of rubber on the matching tyres, although some cracking is visible on the edges. Excellent condition soft top, fully working (new in 2020) and complete with the very rare plastic tonneau covers. Lights all work… very pleasing car to look at!
INTERIOR:
Very nice inside… leather is pretty much damage free, no rips etc, drivers seat has had some re-dying in the past, which is fading slightly again now. The mechanisms to allow the seat backs to move for rear passengers are both not working well, you have to be pretty firm with the levers… otherwise everything works, windows mirrors heater etc.
carpets in good shape too… dashboard is generally crack free, although the wood veneer has peeled on the left side. Needs gluing back down… decent radio fitted and the electric antenna operates normally. The rpm gauge used to work, but flaps about these days. I’m assuming it’s a small item that needs swapping.
MECHANICS:
The car fires up without any issue, runs very well and the full pressure turbo very much does its job. I believe the car has been rated around 185bhp, with a few minor mods. Clutch and gearbox are all good, clutch pedal a little squeaky in operation, but works fine. Suspension is all good too, it has been slightly lowered and was professionally set up by Abbott Racing, in 2001… naturally being lower, the plastic underside spray flaps are often scraping over speed bumps, probably need removing really. Being a convertible, there’s a little squeakiness to the chassis, but the bushings are all ok, perhaps getting a little clunky over bumps but it rides well over long journeys. New battery at last mot, lots of spares in the boot and I believe the original steering wheel too.
There’s a pile of receipts and history, literally documenting thousands of pounds spent… and most recently in 2024, nearly £2k on new sills and rust removal/ welding, to bring it back to its solid glory!
SUMMARY:
A genuine example, mechanically sound and driving very well. Always room for improvements, as with any car of this age and mileage… but on the whole, it’s all there and can only be made better! Useable daily if you wanted, it’s a really reliable car and a bundle of fun to drive!
