Morris 8 Series 1 1936 2 door fixed head
My Morris which I have owned since 2019 is available for sale due to another ‘addition’ . Lack of room and more importantly lack of use means sadly that she must find a new owner to continue the love!
Fitted with the later engine as fitted to the Morris E series but retaining the original 3 speed gearbox the car was subject to a major refurbishment in the 1980’s the car presents well in its green and black livery. There is a large amount of ownership history with the previous owner going to the trouble of contacting Cumbria Council who were very helpful in identifying the car and its owner , a Doctor in the Lake district. I estimate I have only covered only 500 miles since owning.
In the past year or so the car has been fitted with Rear shock absorber links and bushes, 4 new tyres, Brake cylinder repair kit, stainless steel exhaust system and various other items.
2024/ 5 ENGINE REBUILD
Unfortunately when returning from a ‘repair’ at a local garage the engine decided to expire. On investigation by a Morris 8 expert and after removing the head it was decided that a rebuild of the engine would be necessary. This is where it hurts! Engine re-sleeved and rebored to standard pistons , Crankshaft re-ground and +30 new main and big end bearings, replacement valves, New clutch kit and bearing etc, Oil pump reconditioned with new gauze, Radiator reconditioned and re-cored. H. T. leads . points , condenser, coil. New engine and radiator mounting bushes , New 6v battery. In fact anything that it has needed has been done. Ian Harris Morris Spares has supplied all of the engine parts. Saunders Engineering of Cadnam near Southampton have done all the machining and engineering work. Mike Thew Classics has put the engine together.
The car runs beautifully as you would expect after such an overhaul and will be ideal to take to shows and enjoy as a real icon of British motoring history (The car was new the year that the very first Spitfire flew in 1936!)
Interior chassis and bodywork.
The bodywork does have a few marks but is generally in very good presentable condition. The chassis has no corrosion and has been primed and undersealed. The area I personally would improve would be the dashboard and gauges but the interior is finished off nicely with a complete new carpet set supplied by Coverdale.
I have numerous photographs of the Morris including many taken of the engine rebuild which completes the story and a file full of receipts and invoices hand books etc.
A lovely pre-war Classic ready to go for the summer.
