Description
This stunning car is the rare manual 2. 4T version of the Volvo C70 Coupe, a first generation model (1996-2005) with RHD.
The C70 was launched in this special colour at the Paris Motor Show in 1996 and this is one of only 145 saffron gold models that were sent to the UK.
I bought this beautiful car in 2020 from the previous owner who knows these cars from his career at a Volvo dealership. He had his team service and maintain the car very well.
Sadly I can no longer drive after a left knee replacement operation, so this classic coupe is available to a lucky new owner.
The engine spec is: 2. 4T; B5244T; 1997–2002; 193 PS (142 kW; 190 hp); 270 N⋅m (199 lb⋅ft) at 1800; 2, 435 cc (148. 6 in3), I5 turbo.
THE POSITIVES
The car comes with a full history file of service records and invoices, which show the low mileage to be genuine.
Belt change was at 70, 581 miles on 20 April 2020.
Current mileage is 79, 500 as of June 2025.
In the last year the car has received an oil and brake fluid change, new front tyres - all season, and replacement of the ABS unit and sensor. The dashboard is clear and has no warning lights.
The car is in great condition inside and out, has a few marks on the front bumper and the alloys need to be refurbed if you want to make it perfect. The AC works but may need a top up.
THE NEGATIVES:
Recent French CT (MOT) showed 2 Major Failures:
Rear shock absorbers need to be replaced.
Drivers seat (electric): Malfunctioning adjustment mechanism.
1 Minor Failure: Front Fog Lights: Incorrect horizontal aiming.
The price of the car is reduced to take into account the electric seat problem, a common issue with the folding seats in the coupe. A french mechanic, being unfamiliar with the car, disabled the motor to stop the seat moving too far forward. Even so, a friend comfortably drove the car 200 miles to its present location recently without any issues.
Location - it is garaged with a friend near Toulouse, has French plates and can be driven to your home. If you are from the UK, I can help with registration and the previous UK plates can come with the car.
If you would like any more information, please ask.
I have a video of a cold start and a walk around view of the car that I can email to you. History since purchase in 2020 - I went all the way to Carlisle to buy this car from a volvo aficionado who knows these cars inside out. He had been looking for a manual Saffron Gold for years that was in good enough condition to take to car shows. Immediately after buying the car in Sept 2020, I drove it 300 miles to London. Then, in 2021, I drove the C70 from Calais all the way down to the south of France. I've clocked up almost 9000 happy miles. The car drives like a dream and turns heads with its stunning look. I like having a car that you rarely see anywhere, maybe you'd enjoy that too!
FUN FACT:
The C70, was introduced to the press in a signature color (saffron pearl metallic) and for the debut marketing, the 1997 film The Saint featured a C70 — recalling the notable connection of the Volvo P1800 and the television series from the early 1960s, The Saint with Roger Moore as Simon Templar. The total number of cars produced with the signature saffron pearl metallic paint was reportedly 145.
