Description
Hello,
I have decided to sell my Singer Le Mans Special Speed.
I recently purchased my Le Mans from a Mr Hunt who purchased the Singer in December 2020 from Gavin McGuires Fine Automobiles.
I already own a Singer 9 Le Mans 4 seater but always wanted a 2 seater as they sit lower with the underslung chassis and look lovely. The decision to buy was with my heart and not my head and I realise now that having two pre-war singers is not practical.
Anyway description below of this lovely French Blue Le Mans.
This 1936 Special Speed comes with a copy of its factory works order. Built for works order 8321 on chassis number LC5367 with engine number 7482 which it retains to this day. It was delivered on the 7th of April to Singer dealer Moodys of Hove in Sussex and sold by Kemp brothers ( who are still in business in Seaford, Sussex) to a local resident Mr T. C. P Russell and registered by him on the 8th April 1936.
At some stage it was brought by a gentleman in Singapore and brought back to the UK in 2012. From 2012 until 2016 it underwent a considerable restoration firstly is David Wall Vintage and Classics to the Tune of £4200 and then by the Singer expert Bill Tull. There 9 pages of A4 handwritten pages of what Bill has done at a considerable cost of £10, 200. The abridged notes of what Bill has done I have listed below.
Repair to the engine block, new pistons, white metal connecting rod and crankshaft bearings, cylinder head skimmed, new valves, rebuilt rockers and pillars, replacement timing chain tensioner, new engine mountings, new clutch, steering box overhaul, new dynamo, new starter motor, brake overhaul, replacement half shaft, rebuilt speedo, rebuilt wiper motor, new fuel pump, carburettors rebuilt, stainless steel exhaust and the list goes on.
It has what looks like a new hood and side screens the body is very sound thou the paintwork has a lot of patina which I like but the new owner could repaint if desired. I also has 5 brand new Longstone tyres and a spare brand new wire wheel not on the car.
Mr Hunt has not used the Singer that frequently so I did have it all checked by my local chap wheels, underneath etc to make sure it was all ok. I have done approximately 100 miles in short little 10 mile drive outs so it has been used recently for the new owners peace of mind.
I am going to market this at a price below what I purchased it for to sell so somebody will get a bargain. Any viewings are welcome.
