It’s a very nice tidy bike, and will turn heads wherever you go, I’d say 8. 5-9. 0 out of 10.
I’ve done 45 miles, the last 20 in 1 trip out, and she goes & stops very well. Of course the brake pads & tyres still need another few miles of bedding in as well.

Here’s an August ’78 RD250E, with Genuine Allspeeds, that I’ve just restored. V5 in my name, Tax n MOT Exempt. Mileage cannot be confirmed, as the speedo is a nice 1 that I’d already got, same as Tacho.
Matching numbers according to V5, but the top engine casing must’ve been replaced at some time in the past, as there’s no number stamped in the ridged area.
Original key, and a spare fits Ignition, fuel cap and seat lock, No steering lock fitted.
Everything was chemically stripped off, paint/ powder coat, submersed in DeoxC rust treatment to get inside all the tubes etc, for 48 hours, then washed off thoroughly, before prepping for new powder coating, and certain parts, painted.
Barrels, Heads & Clock surrounds are the only items painted. Everything else has been Gloss, or Satin Powder coated, for longevity.
Engine has had crank rebuild, new Yamaha crank seals.
It came without barrels, heads, and carbs, and quite a few other items, but sourced a lot of parts from a fellow Aircooled RD Club member. Barrels rebored to 0. 5mm, 2nd oversize, using NOS Yamaha 0. 5mm pistons & rings. 2r8 carbs from said club member, we’re reassembled with all original Mikuni internals. Oil pump refurbished by “Arrow” the club Guru on pumps, came out looking better than new.
The tank, complete seatbase minus sidestrips, oil tank, plastic side panel, and rear seat cowl, were already painted some years ago, but had storage damage, purchased from said club member. The rear cowl decal had been put onto the very back part that sits against rear light bracket!!, so obtained a new decal for my paint man to sort. He also had to sort out chipped off paint on bottom seam edges of the tank, which have turned out really nice, seeing as the paint was put on some years ago, and was how fellow club member had purchased them all, with a job lot many years back. Unfortunately, when stripping the old cover off seatbase, I discovered a monumental amount of Fibreglass making up the sides, and most of the top of the base, beyond saving unfortunately, so a nice original replacement was found. I’d already got a spare pair of sidestrips for seatbase, so these were colour matched by paint guy, while he’d got the other items.
The plastic side panel Lug had broken off, so Steve Burgess 3D printed 1 out for me. I then counter sunk a hole through the main mounting bracket, drilled and tapped an M5 thread into the 3D printed part, epoxy resin, and a counter sunk M5 caphead bolt used to give a solid fixing. Works, and looks great. Touched up using touchup paint for my White Peugeot Boxer van, and a couple of scratches on top edge of oil tank were touched in by myself, because I only found these little issues after getting the other items back from paint guy!!
Wheels powder coated by CJ Ward of Burton Upon Trent, and look Fantastic. New Koyo bearings, Avon Roadrider tyres, inner tubes, spare used discs fitted.
Yambits Master Cylinder kits fitted in front & rear master cylinders. New Stainless Steel pistons, with new seals fitted in Calipers. New Goodridge Braided brake pipes.
Also include in the Sale are a pair of 2R8 original exhausts, which do need brackets and repairs before getting new Chrome. I’ve temporarily fitted them using brackets off my 400, to see how they looked and sounded. From a few yards away, they look OK, probably because I gave them a go over with Tin foil & Autosol!!
Allspeeds, came with the boxes of parts, but the Castlenuts were severely corroded to the threaded part on pipes. Got them off eventually, but the thread had disappeared, so they were sent to MGN Fabrications, for Martin’s attention. Luckily he’d got a good pair of threads from a scrap pair of exhausts. These were welded onto these Allspeeds, but on pressure testing, both pipes were leaking badly behind the mounting brackets. Brackets removed to facilitate welding, then refitted, pressure test passed! There were lots of dinks in them which I’ve managed to fill with a High Temperature filler, and a few coats of high temperature Satin Black paint. They look and Sound fantastic, goes pretty well too, but only up to 4000 revs, as the engine still needs another 555 miles of running in done by new owner!!!
New items:
Yamaha Speedo & Tacho Cables
Venhill Clutch cable, nice n smooth & quite light!
Pitstop Motorcycles- Main Loom & rear subloom, Air Filter, and New Fork Stanchions, with new Athena seals.
RDLC CRAZY: New Handlebars
Yambits: Front & Rear Master Cylinder Rebuild Kits, and lots of other things!!
Tourmax OEM Fuel Tap, OEM Fuel pipe, AND TOO MUCH I CAN'T REMEMBER!!!

New Zinc, Yellow Passivate & Olive Drab plating on everything original that I could find. I’ve had to use a few new bolts in places, that I hadn’t got originals.
