Description
This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 250ce Coupe is an original German registered car owned by the same family from 1971 to 2010 .
The car is equipped with a matching numbers 6 cylinder, 2. 5 litre fuel injected , 150 bhp, 4 speed automatic, column shift , power steering, Ivory steering wheel and shift knob , disc brakes all round, power sunroof, blue tinted glass , heated rear screen , Becker Europa radio, finished in a hansom original colour 906G metallic grey / blue with matching blue M-B Tex / cloth upholstery, with front and rear folding armrests.
The car retains it’s original hard copy German first registration title “Kraftfahrzeugbrief” dated March 1971, through to 2010 but the modern replacement German registration document was surrendered by the UK DVLA at the time of import and returned to Germany .
From 2010 to 2012 at an undocumented 90, 000 kms the car then had a slow restoration including new paint , new front floor pans , suspension and steering overhaul , full exhaust system, new fuel tank and electric fuel pump, underbody strip , re undersealed and new carpets were fitted .
No other bodywork was required at that time and there are no areas of filler repairs.
The car was then kept in a heated garage and driven occasionally, a classic car full condition appraisal was carried out in 2015 at 93, 700 kms, the car was valued at that time at €18, 000.
German Tüv inspections were carried every two years up to 2024 and at a documented 98, 000 kms .
In Jan 2024 I imported and registered the car in the UK as historic and therefore Mot, road tax and ULEZ free . The car passed a voluntary Mot inspection in Feb 2024 with no advisories.
I then drove a faultless 2500 kms south to the Algarve and keep the car garaged or covered at my vacation home in Portugal for occasional holiday trips , were the climate, roads and traffic are much kinder to classic cars , currently the clock shows 106, 000 kms / approx 66, 000 miles , I would say that looking at the original interior and all the usual wear points of the car that this could be fairly accurate but unfortunately there is no kms documentation prior to 2010 .
During my ownership I have made improvements including four new inertia reel seatbelts , seatbelt guides, four new headrests, new window and boot rubbers , passenger door mirror, 123 electronic ignition, complete ignition overhaul , new battery, cold start relay, front brake callipers with new pads and fluid changes , filter changes , a pair of NOS period long range driving lamps , new headlight reflectors and amber fog lamp lenses , under bonnet and boot lid soundproofing pads and matching boot carpet.
The car retains its original crack free blue vinyl padded dashboard ( covered by a matching quick fitting Ivory Sun protector cover ) original Zebrano wood trim , beautiful condition Ivory steering wheel, original Becker Europa radio , all M-B handbooks , first aid kit , full M-B toolkit , jack , spare wheel , spare bulb kit , 7 litre Belline fuel can, M-B locking fuel cap, M-B umbrella and full set of period matching luggage.
I have added and use a good quality 4 layered fitted car cover for sun and dust protection. These Mercedes-Benz W114 Coupe’s were extremely modern cars for their time, electronic fuel injection, 150 bhp, 200 kph, 4 speed automatic transmission, disc brakes all round, independent coil spring suspension, crumple zones front and rear and weighing in at just under 1500 kgs made these cars a pleasure to drive with excellent road holding and now as a classic car can easily handle modern traffic.
In my ownership I have taken my time to carefully improve what was a cherished one family car for 40 years to the condition that it is now more enjoyable and safer for driver and passengers.
These roomy 4/ 5 seat Mercedes-Benz pillarless Coupe’s with all four windows down and the huge open power sunroof are as near to driving a convertible as you can get but without the inconvenience of a soft top car, plus they offer excellent heating and fresh air ventilation and with the M-B Tex / cloth seating saving you from cold or hot sweaty seats . For added convenience the Coupe’s have an enormous boot for luggage too.
This Mercedes Coupe still retains it’s bank vault like closing door thud of quality construction.
The car will be sold with the cherished plate.
I will assist in relocating the car as necessary.
