1960 Landrover series 2 109”. The 109” pickups rarely come to the market, arguably better proportioned than the stubbier 88”the long wheel base provides a far more practical and both enjoyable proposition. Comfortable and less bouncy due to the longer wheel base, I can happily say as my personal car, I have done a large amount of mileage up and down the country, both trouble free and relative comfort for a Landie!
This beautiful Land Rover series 2 has a fascinating and incredibly well documented history. Purchased new by a Mr Slann in 1960. Mr Slann was an aeronautical engineer, clearly evident in later work carried out in the car. Originally purchased for use around his Surrey estate, the Landrover would stay there for 40 odd years. During the 1980s a thorough and well documented restoration and upgrade was carried out, including a new genuine chassis from Landrover themselves, countless other modifications were also carried out with the idea of turning her into the ideal Landrover for “touring” as specified in the detail notes made and kept on file. The restoration and modifications clearly show a level of detail and only of someone from the aerospace industry, the notes and pictures through the ownership history also make fascinating reading. Only when the Surrey estate was too large the once owner of 48 years downsized to a castle in Scotland! In old age he decided it was time to pass the Landrover on, selling it to the fabled Dunsford collection. Looking for something completely different I fell in love with the beautifully painted and charming look of this beloved Landie. During my ownership I have carried out a large amount of work including fitting the original gearbox rebuilt by Hardy engineering, new Weber carburettor, new brakes, new seats (originals come with), new electrical parts and countless other jobs and parts to keep her in tip top road worthy condition.
Whether for touring the country by green lanes or motorways, this Landie is ready for it all! Only an unfortunate relocation forces the sale.
