Description
Back up for sale as sale fell through sadly, without the potential buyer seeing the bike.
A very early 1955 BMW R50 boxer twin in very good condition. Currently fitted with a Blitz single seat, but I have the Denfield dual seat also in excellent condition along with the foot pegs and brackets.
Engine and frame numbers match.
The bike is in very good condition indeed, having been on display at the Mortonhampstead Motor Museum up until 3 years ago when I purchased it. It has been fully recommissioned, with a fully rebuilt gearbox, done by Overland and Classic, a new 12v alternator fitted, from Motoworks, complete with all the equipment to convert it to 12v. The ignition remains the original magneto which works very well.
The carburettors were thoroughly cleaned with all new Jets, floats etc to ensure good running.
New tyres and tubes were also fitted.
The bike starts and rides very well and remains in use for the odd local show this year but needs to go as I’m reducing my collection of old bikes and this is the last one to go. I doubt if there is a better one available at the moment in the UK.
There is an extensive history with the bike, from the previous owner and myself in two box files.
Call me to have a chat and come and take a look. There are a number of spares with the bike, mainly gaskets, as I bought a full set to assist with the recommissioning. All the old parts from the alternator swap have been retained
As you can see from the photographs it is in very good condition indeed. It also starts and runs very well having had a great deal of money spent on the recommissioning. Call for more details. In very good condition and rides very well. A very fine gentleman’s motorcycle.
