For Sale is my 1965 Fiat 500F. It will be a shame to part with it, I have had 3 wonderful summers of fun with the car but it’s time for a change. It always puts a smile on peoples faces and is a real joy to just potter about in.
The car is a comparatively rare UK delivered RHD model. It is pretty original and unmodified complete with its 499cc engine and non-synchro gearbox. It has done 53, 800 miles.
After being off the road since the mid 80s, the car was put through a sympathetic restoration, which was completed in spring 2023. The shell is entirely rust free, having had an extensive number of panels replaced and a couple repaired. I have photographs of the metal work to show it was done properly. The paint is lovely and glossy, as seen from the pictures, but being critical up close there are small defects of some sort in several panels. Likewise the brightwork pretty good but the bumpers are a bit pitted and have a few small ‘bumps’!
Mechanically the car is perfect. The suspension and brakes were replaced entirely, along with new wheels and the correct Pirelli tyres. The matching numbers engine, that will come with the car, suffered a bearing failure and so a replacement engine is currently fitted. This engine has been stripped down and cleaned with various parts replaced and runs beautifully. It pulls as well as a little 17hp engine should, it starts well hot or cold and will cruise at 50-55mph on a flat road all day. The original non-syncho gearbox shifts smoothly (once you get the hang of double de-clutching!) through all the gears.
On the inside the seats are all in great condition with new covers in the original blue and cream. The dashboard and instruments are all clean and tidy. The original rubber mat flooring is there, it is torn and repaired in some places but I feel it’s utilitarian chic is much preferable to the carpet sets fitted to many 500s. The sunroof is new and fits well.
It’s been a great little car and I will be sad to see it go, but I don’t want it to just collect dust with me when it could be out being used as it was intended with someone else.
