Description
This exceptionally rare 1979 Toyota Corolla Sprinter is a genuine Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) import with just 24, 045 miles. The Sprinter was never officially sold in the UK, making this a truly unique find. This fourth-generation E70 series model represents the sportier, more stylish offshoot of Toyota's legendary Corolla range, featuring angular late-70s styling and positioned as a more youthful variant.
The car retains its completely original specification including original stereo, mirrors, seats, and seat covers. The underfloor is totally rust-free, and it features simple, reliable rear-wheel drive mechanics with a 1. 3L 4K four-cylinder engine and manual transmission.
Condition: This Sprinter presents in very good condition for its age with the low mileage clearly evident. The engine bay and boot are in good order, and the interior is generally excellent. However, it's not perfect and requires some attention. There's cosmetic corrosion around the front/ rear bumper infill panels, minor corrosion behind the offside front wing badge, and surface rust in wheel wells (all treatable). The chrome bumpers show minor pitting. The nearside sill has cosmetic damage from incorrect jacking procedures. The headlining needs attention and there are minor marks in the passenger footwell.
Mechanically, the car requires some attention - it doesn't currently run due to lack of recent use (will require a battery swap and service), and the offside rear brake needs work as it locks on. These are relatively simple issues given the straightforward mechanicals.
History: First UK registered September 2018, two previous keepers before current ownership in June 2024. Last MOT in August 2018 passed with no advisories. Previously advertised at £7, 495 then £6, 995 by dealer. What drew me to this Sprinter was its incredible rarity and completely original condition - you simply don't see these cars in the UK. The moment I saw it, I knew I was looking at something special. With only 24, 045 genuine miles, it's like stepping back in time to 1979 Japan.
The Sprinter has such character and presence on the road - it turns heads everywhere and starts conversations at every petrol station. People are fascinated by its angular 70s styling and the fact it was never sold here originally. It's Toyota reliability with genuine exclusivity.
What I love most is how original everything is. In an age where so many classics have been modified or "improved," this Sprinter is exactly as Toyota intended it. From the original stereo to the factory seat covers, it's a proper time capsule. The 1. 3L engine perfectly suits today's conscious approach to classic ownership - economical to run while still delivering that authentic classic car experience.
Interest in JDM cars is at an all-time high, and this represents affordable entry into that world with something genuinely rare. Very few 1970s Japanese cars make it to the UK, and even fewer survive in this condition. It's the perfect classic for someone who wants something different that won't be mistaken for anything else on the road.
This is reluctant sale only due to changing circumstances. The car deserves an enthusiast owner who will appreciate its rarity and continue its story.
