Description
A coachbuilt car by Freestone and Webb on chassis WVA19. One of possibly six to design 3004/ A, a saloon limousine with electric division. It is a largely original car bodywise and has had considerable mechanical work carried out over a 9 year period. These include brakes, suspension, shock absorbers, clutch, starter, flywheel, top engine overhaul, fuel system cleaned, engine and rad flush, new tyres and tubes, front carpet set, replacement fully rebuilt gearbox, all hoses, ignition components etc etc. Consequently it runs well and cruises easily at 50 to 60, more if you want to, giving around 14mpg.
It does not have power steering and is therefore becoming a bit heavy for me at slow speed tight turns.
Nothing major has been done to the coachwork but there has evidently been some repainting in the past and the white sections are not original. The car appears in nearly all major books on post war Rolls Royce.
Being a 1947 car there are areas such as overhauling the semaphores and reinstating the sealed sun roof that a future owner might wish to do at their leisure. Also the new dynamo brushes may need some bedding in.
It comes with all major and small tools (some reproductions). This car is very rare and always gets a "wow" reception wherever it goes. I have never seen another with this design and probably never will. It was used as publicity by Rolls Royce in the Autocar magazine of June 1948 a copy is included. The first owner was Tokenhouse securities of London who paid £5, 911 to Jack Barclay Ltd Hanover St London. Copies of the build and test records from Rolls Royce are present, as is a folder of all receipts for maintenance from 2016, owners handbook from 1947, and copies of the workshop manual sheets.
