In the roaring years of the 1980s car production had reached a turning point: many manufacturers paired small family saloons and city cars with sporting models and a “bad” look.
Among these, one in particular stood out, the rival in its segment to the A112 Abarth and Mini Cooper, to the Fiat 126 and Y10 Turbo, the one that would later become an icon of those years: the Mini Turbo De Tomaso.
A car that brought notable innovations and records in the field of what would later become known as city cars. It was in fact the world’s first utilitarian to be fitted on the Special version with a digital clock and electric windows.
Moreover it mounted the smallest turbocharged engine in the World, an advanced little jewel from Nipponica, which allowed it to push well beyond 170 km/ h, and reach 0-100 km/ h in about 10 seconds. Performances still quite respectable today for this segment.
The Innocenti Mini Turbo de Tomaso that we present for sale is a beautifully preserved example, with only 19, 900 km on the clock from new.
Having been jealously kept in a private collection for around 15 years, it has preserved itself really in superb condition, with much of the original paint still present, interiors virtually perfect, underpinnings and mechanics as if straight from the factory.
Entering this car immediately throws you back to the 1980s. Driving it you feel all the grit and the urge for freedom of those years that only these cars can inspire.
The Mini Turbo de Tomaso for sale in our showroom is equipped with the CB60 Daihatsu engine, the most reliable and improved compared to the previous series.
This also makes it a collectible and an investment: it is estimated that only around 1, 000 examples of this version were produced, very few have survived to date, perhaps none in such superb original condition.
A car full of edge, roar, with a character not exactly easy, but one that will make the heart of any enthusiast race.
The car will be delivered with a new service including timing belts, water pump, spark plugs, oils and filters, central silencer and exhaust.
