Description
Wolseley A9 Drop Head Coupe
Extraordinary early Wolseley Coupe in delightful survivor condition. Built in 1924 this A9 Drop Head Coupe was fully restored both cosmetically and mechanically over a 30 year period, finally completed in 2004, and has been lightly used since. An advanced car for its time it has a 15hp 2. 6 litre overhead camshaft engine which produces plenty of power and torque. Some more recent upgrades have been incorporated to further improve the driving experience and reliability . The original carburettor has been replaced with a SU item (original is included), an external oil filter has been fitted. The engine was fully rebuilt with new pistons, steel con rods and conversion from white metal bearings. A new ash frame was constructed to support the original open two seater body with dickie seat.
A popular car in period, the Wolseley A9 has the distinction of being the first passenger car built in Japan, manufactured under licence by the Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Co. in 1922.
Since purchased by the seller in 2022, it has been driven sparingly whilst further improving reliability. He recently had the Autovac fuel system refurbished and the Wolseley is now running better than ever. The body remains in excellent condition, with only minor marks from storage. The simple interior is delightful, with a large black bench seat, and solid wood floor beneath black fitted carpet. The wooden dash is complete with the correct Smiths instrumentation, along with the Wolseley maker’s brass plaque with the car number that matched the original documentation on file.
It has also retained its original non transferable registration MR2001.
In the accompanying history folder here is an original Wolseley Car record document, along with various parts invoices, documents and old MoTs and two Wolseley Owner’s manuals, along with some spare parts.
