First registered on the 1st of August 1964, this charming Wolseley Hornet Mk2 presents in the elegant combination of Florentine Blue with Whitewall Beige detailing, complemented by a Powder Blue interior. Supplied new by Somerset Motors Ltd of Taunton, this particular car represents the very essence of 1960s British motoring refinement—compact yet distinguished, with the unmistakable grace of Wolseley’s upmarket Mini derivative.
This Hornet comes with an extensive history file that traces its remarkable journey from original registration through to its bare-metal restoration completed in 2018. The restoration, documented through a large photographic record showing each stage of the process, was undertaken to an exceptionally high standard. The car was completely stripped and rebuilt, receiving new upholstery from Newton & Commercial and a full mechanical overhaul, while retaining its original engine, which was subsequently tuned by A-series specialist A. C. Dodd. In January 2025, the car benefited from a recommissioned, like-for-like gearbox, ensuring a smooth and reliable drive.
The provenance is thoroughly documented. Included with the car are the original Wolseley Hornet workshop manual, driver’s handbook and supplement, and the Hornet accessory booklet. Accompanying these are numerous period brochures, sales merchandise from early 1964—including a large pull-out poster advertisement—and a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, confirming this example as a home-market, right-hand-drive car. Also present are a few previous V5 documents, past value certificates, the original invoice from its purchase as a restoration project, and a wealth of invoices supporting the comprehensive work carried out.
Adding to its historical interest, a 25th May 1967 issue of Autocar magazine featuring a detailed write-up about the Wolseley Hornet accompanies the sale, further situating this example within its period context.
With six former keepers and ownership by its previous custodian for the last twelve years, this Hornet represents one of the finest examples available today.
