Description
First registered in June 1946 this is a very early example of a B31.
I believe that this machine has never been restored with many original early components.
It is in unrestored condition but has undergone a complete recommissioning including fitting a new Amal 276 carb, clutch, battery and is fitted with a solid state rectifier/ regulator.
All oils changed and filters cleaned and all grease points cleaned and regressed.
Dynamo was stripped, cleaned and flashed and is charging well.
Magneto gives a strong spark and it usually starts first kick.
Engine runs smooth with no smoke or rattles.
It does suffer the odd weep but no serious oil leaks, the engine does not appear to have ever been apart.
Cosmetically the bike is in unrestored condition with areas of rust and corrosion on most parts, rims have corrosion but are in usable condition.
All electrics work and charging is excellent, brakes work well, Engine is good and all gears select fine, handles really well.
Due to the solid state rectifier I have fitted a battery cut out switch on the toolbox.
The bike definitely shows it's age but is a usable example of a very early model, personally I would not restore this but that's the new owners choice. This is a very original early example and is fitted with pre war style levers, early flat glass headlight lens, early style handlebars, tank mounted speedometer with long trip set knob protruding under the tank.
Rear light may have been changed but not sure when this style of lens was used by BSA so may be original to bike?
It has good tyres front and rear, front is John Bull and rear is early Dunlop.
Although there are many examples of the BSA B31 early examples as original as this are rare.
