B230 FB Engine
Normally Aspirated
Almost as quick as the Turbo Model and YES it's got the famous Egg Crate Grill which transforms the car and is worth over £150 if you can find one.
An overlooked and under estimated engine.
The Volvo B230FB is a 2. 3-liter, 8-valve, single-overhead-cam (SOHC) inline-four engine (that most people overlook) from Volvo's "Redblock" series, typically producing around 131PS. ( 129 Horsepower)

Key specifications include its use of a lower compression ratio compared to some other B230 variants, it's got a "531" cylinder head, a VX3 camshaft, and LH-Jetronic fuel injection.
The B230FB Non Turbo was installed in the Volvo 940
but only from from 91-95
Volvo did make an SE Turbo but that was in 1996
The B230FB refers to the specific 2. 3-liter inline-four engine (which is part of Volvo's Redblock engine family), known for its durability and ease of maintenance and offering decent performance

Fuel Injection: The B230FB uses Bosch LH-Jetronic fuel injection, helping it maintain good fuel efficiency and smoother engine operation compared to older carb models.

The Volvo 940 SE was all about comfort and durability. Inside, you'll find high-quality leather materials and the rugged, utilitarian design that Volvo is famous for. The seats are built for long drives, and they’re supportive and comfortable.

The Redblock engine in particular is known for its reliability and longevity. With proper maintenance, it's not unusual to see these engines running well over 400, 000 miles.

Volvo’s boxy design is also part of the car's legendary durability, giving it a reputation for being able to withstand harsh conditions and a long lifespan.
The boxy design of the 940 might seem a bit outdated today, but it’s a timeless look for Volvo enthusiasts. It’s practical, with good visibility and a very sturdy, no-frills appearance, unlike most cars today which all look alike but have different badges.
The 940 is also ideal for those looking for an easy-to-maintain classic cars, especially the B230FB engine since parts are still readily available, and the engine is relatively simple compared to modern engines.

A Gem of an engine that people overlook
find another ( I don't think you will )

Below Non Turbo B230FB engine spec 131PS. (129HP)
(PS is a metric unit of power) ( HP is the imperial unit of power (horsepower). )

Further Below is the B230FK Turbo engine spec 135PS. (133HP)
So very little difference (4HP difference) and a lot less to go wrong
No Turbo
No intercooler
I doubt if you would notice the difference in normal driving
VOLVO 940 Estate (945) 2. 3
B 230 FB 1990 - 1994 96kW 131PS (129HP)

VOLVO 940 Estate B230FK (2. 3)
1995-98 ; Volvo 940 2, 3 Turbo 99kW. 135PS. (133HP)

OK SO NOW YOU KNOW ALL ABOUT THE ENGINE

The car is solid, no rot
Mileage is genuine showing 116, 000 miles over it's 30 year life
( that's a mere 3800 miles a year on average )
11 months MOT ( surface rust as expected on the exhaust )
Manual Transmission ( 5 gears on the stick) ( not 4 + overdrive button )

Good tyres
The battery tray ( where 940 tend to suffer from rot is perfect ) so no problems there
The other side of the engine bay where the windscreen washer bottle is housed is also perfect with no rot
Chassis Rails perfect as you would expect
Top Front Suspension struts in perfect order
New Cam belt Fitter so good for at least 60K miles
Its had a replacement water pump
Rear light units have been replaced with brand new units only because they were faded, I wouldn't want to buy a car with faded rear light lenses and I wouldn't expect you to either.
There is a tow bar fitted to the car but I don't think it's had much use over the years.
Heated seats
Heated and electrically operated door mirrors
Front and Rear electric windows
Radio works ( Radio Code present )
Fuel gauge works
Water Temp Gauge works
Speedo and trip counter works
Rev counter works
It's all there and in working order

Thanks to you know who you are for the silly offer, But No Thanks!
This is not a must sell.
I might be fed up but I'm not hard up!

If you are looking for a 940 estate as a keeper then this 940 Normally Aspirated might just be the one for you, Don't forget this is almost as quick as a turbo model but without the turbo or intercooler so you won't have to spend out £700 as there is no Turbo too go wrong.
