Description
This 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 ‘Laguna Seca’ is 1 of 262 manufactured by Ford in School Bus Yellow and 1 of 765 manufactured by Ford world wide (with 2 known to be in RHD with this Laguna Seca being one of the last 22 produced). This Laguna Seca currently has 13, 146kms from new and has been served every 12 months regardless of use.
This Laguna Seca was delivered with the Boss 302 car cover, Boss 302 floor mats, front splitter, red track key, owner pack including a letter from the Ford President, US dealer sticker and order sheet and remains on its original Pirelli P Zero Corsa R-compound competition tires. She is currently sporting a factory sticker kit which was placed on for a ford event and she has not been outside or in the sun with the stickers (all of which are low contact and can be easily removed). The Alcantara steering wheel does not have signs of use.
Inspired by the 1969 Boss 302 homologation race car, the 2013 Laguna Seca was manufactured as a special and focused race-ready street car and shares parts derived from the Ford factory prepared Boss 302R race car which was designed to run in the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series.
In 2013 the Leguna Seca was considered the quickest, best-handling straight-production Mustang ever offered by Ford. Its performance was benchmarked against cars like the 2013 E92 BMW M3, and it was the fastest Mustang to lap Ford's test track up to that point. In 2013, the Laguna Seca recorded times around the Laguna Seca race track in the 140. 2 to 1. 43 range, while the 2014 BMW M3 (E92) recorded lap times in the 142 to 1. 43 range.
Unlike other Ford Mustangs the primary design focus of the Laguna Seca was exceptional handling and agility on a road course, not just straight-line speed. Ford President Mark Fields stated "Laguna Seca isn't intended for Boss buyers who simply want an exhilarating daily driver…Think of it as a factory-built race car, which we hope avid racers and track-day fans are going to love."
David Pericak, Ford Mustang chief engineer, stated "Balance is the key on Boss, and even more so on Laguna Seca…It's not for everyone: It's stiffer, there's no back seat, and the aero package is designed for downforce, not speed bumps in the mall parking lot. But for hard-core Mustang racers who want something they can occasionally drive on the street, to shows or whatever, Laguna Seca is the car they've been waiting for, and they're not going to be disappointed."
With the Laguna Seca the suspension is more aggressive, as are the aerodynamic enhancements, and structural bracing (necessitating a rear seat delete) inside and outside of the cabin, the brace is joined by a larger rear stabilizer bar, 5 way manually adjustable dampers with Laguna Seca–specific valving, and higher spring rates to deliver handling better than a standard Boss. Recaro front seats, Torsen limited-slip differential with a 3. 73:1 final drive ratio Front brake cooling ducts, transmission cooling scoop and Adjustable front spoiler are also unique to the car.
Ford gave the 2013 Laguna Seca the "Roadrunner" engine, which utilised heavy-duty components designed for reliability and durability on the track, featuring forged internals, CNC-ported heads, a unique intake from the 302R race car, and a dual-mode track key that unlocks a competition-focused engine calibration for track use, quad exhaust with two side pipes that exit either side of the rear wheels.
The Laguna Seca performance specs, 12 years later, still gets attention. For example, the 2013 Laguna Seca has 444 bhp, can sprint from 0-100 in 4. 2 seconds, while the manual 2024 Mustang Dark Horse (of which Ford made 4, 000) has 500bhp, touted as the most powerful naturally aspirated Ford Mustang, sprints from 0-100 in 4. 1 seconds.
Automotive experts, including those from Hagerty Media and Autoevolution, consider the 2012-13 Boss 302s "future collectibles" given that they represent the "peak" of the solid-axle Mustang and the pinnacle of handling and performance for that era. This historical significance drives its desirability among collectors.
