Description
Welcome to the sale of my 87 Passat B2, driving and running project. I am selling this car as I have too many projects. I’ve listed my car as a project due to a few issues that need addressing however the car is still in daily use.
The oil sump is cracked and needs replacing, of which I have a new sump and gasket to go with the car
The rocker gasket is leaking, also have the gasket kit
Heater / blower motor has suddenly stopped working
The coolant temp gauge has also stopped working, I’m pretty confident this is the wiring at the sensor, also the car runs with no thermostat so it runs cool, why the previous owner did this I have no idea.
There’s no speedo or rev counter, I’ve been told there is a conversion kit you can buy to make a mechanical speedo work with an electrical speed sensor? I think this has been done with mk2 golf stuff and it seems to be a similar platform. The usual other stuff works on the cluster like lights, indicators and fuel which is accurate. I use Waze or Saphe for gps speed.
The dual exit exhaust, now this is pants, it’s fully working but a hole has been cut into the spare wheel well to allow the exhaust to go where it needs to go on the other side, why it’s been made like hs2 I have no idea but also knocks a bit.
Few bits and pieces around the engine and one that I’ve noticed like the crank sensor not fitted, just attached and doing nothing? Could be other things too, however the car is pretty good, it’s still in daily use despite these problems, it drives well and pulls pretty hard. I have all the documentation from the 1. 8t conversion, a 2002 Passat b5 AWT 1. 8t and 5 speed box. I was told that this engine had been refreshed when it went in, cambelt kit was done and a new turbo was fitted, an IHI VF34 from an ej20 Subaru, new with a receipt. The car runs emerald k6 standalone ecu so it can mapped further although it is somewhere in the region of 275hp so it’s quick enough for a fwd 40 year old car. The paint work is pretty patina’d which is how I like old cars to look. The body is pretty solid underneath and gives off the sleeper look. If I were to keep it I would change the wheels out to something less conspicuous, steel g60’s or something similar, something the next owner can do and maybe get a good bit of money back from the 16’’ Borbet A’s.
Other good things to mention is it’s on Corrado G60 front brakes
Stock shocks with 40mm lowering springs. Toyo proxes.
So as you can see, I have been tucked up by the previous owner so I am now selling this car as a project due to the above, might be a weekends worth of work to someone who’s hands on.
Strictly sold as it’s seen due to the nature of the car.
