Description
The TR4 belonged to a very longtime childhood Kiwi friend who has lived in Scotland since marrying some 60 years ago. When we met up in Wales in June 24, I found him very unwell, and since I had been thinking of purchasing a vintage car while in England, I asked him if he would sell his TR 4 to me. A bit reluctant I thought but he agreed, I think simply because his chance to drive it is limited now as his wife is also seriously ill.
I understand that he has owned the vehicle since about 1980, but he never raced the vehicle, but may have taken part in rally’s around Scotland.
I made arrangements to transport the car, it arrived late in 2024, and started the process of a complete overhaul, from chassis, mechanics, roof hood and certification to NZ road legal. In the engine block there is metal label that records the engine as having had a STANPART engine change. So this suggests to me that the current odometer reading is incorrect.
The entire body/ chassis structure was refreshed and tidied up by a panel beater. The Engine was overhauled completely, as was the gearbox.
Full copies of all this work are available. I will help to attach all these invoices and descriptions if someone can advise how to attach a file.
I also added power brake assistance.
The paint work needed no refreshing and the chrome is pretty good and has not been touched. Body paint, chrome looks as near to original of the time of construction.
Glass front window, side door windows and rear window look good to me.
The internal materials have probably been replaced at some stage, but look tidy and without obvious blemish. I’m not sure of the actual fabrics, but would assume that seating and internal door trim is vynal with woollen. carpets. Seating is comfortable, but some shorter frame drivers may wish to add padding to the seat? The seats look original.
I replaced the steering wheel trim.
The dashboard appears vynal trim, and all instruments work as required. I’ve mentioned the roof hood is new.
The vehicle has obviously (because a sticker is attached) been a member of a UK TR register which may contain other information, but I haven’t looked.
