A rare survivor of pre-war German engineering, this 1937 DKW F7 showcases Auto Union’s remarkable innovation in compact car design. Launched in 1937, the F7 stood well ahead of its British contemporaries thanks to its sophisticated backbone chassis, all-round independent suspension and front-wheel drive—a technical combination almost unheard of in its class at the time. Powered by a lively two-cylinder, two-stroke 692cc engine paired with a three-speed manual gearbox, the F7 delivered sprightly performance with a top speed exceeding 50mph.
Offered in several body styles and selling approximately 80, 000 units in just two years, the F7 played a key role in financing Auto Union’s famed Grand Prix programme.
