Description
For connoisseurs of the Laverda marque, a 750 SFC is the Holy Grail. For with this machine the Italian manufacturer racked up a string of wins in the 1970s and made life difficult for the competition on the race tracks.
There are heaps of books, articles, pictures and stories about the SFC. For this reason we won’t attempt to document the entire history here and instead focus on this Laverda offered here.
Important: This is not a pristine SFC by chassis number, but it is definitely more special than a plain replica.
Before Laverda began delivering the initially race-only SFC to riders in the early 70s (road versions followed a little later), the normal S-models from the 1970 and 1971 model years were modified for development purposes. This included various components such as the engine, twin duplex drum brakes, fuel tank, fairing parts, Ceriani suspension, footrest assembly, clip-on handlebars, a cleaner rear subframe without a passenger footrest mount, etc. The early race SFCs were also equipped with components tailored to the rider. And since there were neither Excel spreadsheets nor an electronically supported delivery protocol at the time, little is known about these pre-pre-series prototypes.
This brings us to this particular specimen, which back then was exactly such a test mule. This is also confirmed by Hans Ruedi Möri (HRM), a highly respected figure in the scene and a long-time official Swiss importer for Laverda. He had been visiting the works in Breganze regularly since the 70s and was very well connected with the brand’s original creators. It is he who tracked down this machine offered here in Belgium, overhauled it (including the engine) and brought it back to life. So there are no no-name reproduction parts installed, but all genuine factory components…thanks in particular to HRM’s large original parts stock!
The condition of this orange one-off is absolutely top, the photos accurately reflect reality and a viewing will certainly not disappoint. Currently, this Laverda can be entered in classic races, hill climbs, or closed events. But on request (surcharge by individual agreement) HRM can arrange road-legal registration and veteran status. Then you would own a real unicorn on the road, for there are hardly any other pre-pre-series SFCs in this condition in regular traffic.
We’re curious whether this Laverda listing has, for any petrolhead with orange blood, planted a troublesome flea in the control centre under the skull. If so, just get in touch—we’ll gladly take care of your petrol-powered flea circus.
