Description
Presented for sale is my cherished Mercedes-Benz CLK 200 Elegance Kompressor Automatic Convertible, first registered in January 2002. This is an original, unspoilt example that offers excellent potential for the enthusiast or collector seeking a solid foundation for a future concours-level restoration.
The car has enjoyed long-term, low-owner provenance, having had only two owners from new. I purchased it in 2004 from a specialist dealership in West Sussex, and it has since covered approximately 128, 000 miles. Throughout its life it has been regularly serviced, primarily by reputable Mercedes-Benz specialists, ensuring proper mechanical care and attention from those familiar with this model.
For many years the CLK was used as a dependable daily driver, and in more recent times it has become my second, more occasional car. Its long-term responsible use, gives it the authenticity and mechanical integrity that discerning enthusiasts value when considering a restoration base.
With its elegant lines, supercharged Kompressor engine and classic Mercedes build quality, the car represents a standout example of early-2000s Mercedes design, modern enough to be usable and comfortable, yet firmly on the path to becoming a future classic. The interior, bodywork and mechanical elements present as a well-kept, honest example that would respond beautifully to a detailed refresh. Its originality and unmodified condition further enhance its suitability for restoration to show or concourse standard.
If you are seeking a CLK 200 Elegance that has been preserved with care, has not been interfered with or overused, and offers genuine potential to shine, this is a very worthy opportunity. I originally bought this CLK for one simple reason: it offered an exceptionally solid, comfortable and refined driving experience, a perfect balance of Mercedes engineering quality and enjoyable open-top motoring. What makes this particular car special is its remarkable continuity of ownership: just two owners in total, with me caring for it for the past 24 years. During that time it has always been treated responsibly and sympathetically.
My favourite feature of the car has always been its automatic gearbox, which suits the character of the Kompressor engine beautifully. Smooth, effortless and reassuringly precise, it makes every journey feel relaxed and composed. Even after many years, the CLK still delivers the same enjoyment, refinement and satisfying solidity that made it such an appealing car when new.
For an enthusiast, this is the kind of classic that is easy to connect with, an honest, long-held Mercedes convertible that has been genuinely appreciated and has the potential to be elevated to an exceptional standard by its next custodian.
