HISTORY FILE
First supplied to it's original owner of 25 years by Ashdown Garage of Haywards Heath, this beautiful Coupe was clearly the gentleman's pride and joy only pressed into service on high days and holidays.
With several entries in the original service book in amongst every service invoice from new, the history file illustrates a complete timeline of works carried out over the years. The last major service was carried out at 24k miles in 2022 inclusive of plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm as well as fuel filter replacement.
The original Owners Information book pack is complete with the original sales invoice and 2 spare keys. MODEL HISTORY
The BMW E30 is the second generation of BMW 3 Series, which was produced from 1982 to 1994 and replaced the E21
3 Series.
The model range included 2-door coupe and convertible body styles, as well as being the first 3 Series to be produced in 4-door sedan and wagon/ estate body styles. Development of the E30 3 Series began in July 1976, with styling being developed under chief designer Claus Luthe with exterior styling led by Boyke Boyer. In 1978, the final design was approved, with design freeze (cubing process) being completed in 1979.
BMW's launch film for the E30 shows the design process including Computer-aided design (CAD), crash testing and wind-tunnel testing. The car was released at the end of November 1982 before a minor revision of exterior and interior
design in 1985.
Slotting in neatly between the entry level 316 and straight six 320i, the 105hp M10 equipped 318i was one of the original models in the E30 range at the official 1983 launch. Now fuel injected, the economy was reasonably good alongside adequate power with the model aimed at performance and image conscious buyers on a budget. The option of two or four doors ensured the 1800 engine would appeal to singles and families alike and sold extremely well as a result.
EQUIPMENT
Zinnoberrot (Cinnabar) Red Exterior, Manual Sunroof, Bottle Top Alloy Wheels, Rear Spoiler, Blaupunkt Radio Cassette, Stainless Exhaust, Mud Flaps, Car Mats
EXTERIOR
This charming 'Chromie' Coupe is a wonderful timewarp example of a pre-facelift E30 that presents beautifully in a vibrant shade of Zinnoberrot (Cinnabar) Red. Markedly different from the Brilliant or Misano Red, Cinnabar is an all together deeper hue that really suits the 80's box profile.
Clearly this is an example that has been very well looked after over it's 25k miles and stored carefully when not in use.
The chrome trim does display some burring around the front and rear screens although the door frames, side strips and bumper inserts are in lovely condition. The car also retains it's original glass throughout with the original dealer sticker pride of place on the rear. The rest of the trim rubbers and plastics illustrate excellent fit and finish whilst pleasingly the chassis rails and jacking points are remarkably clear of corrosion.
INTERIOR
This Coupe's cabin has aged remarkably well over the years with that familiar BMW 80's aroma upon entry to the cabin space. The cloth seats show excellent contour and shape whilst the rear bench looks to have seen little to no use. A
pillar covers and dash are excellent and fit as they should - not normally the case with a lot of E30's whilst the door cards, sills and gearbox tunnel free from wear or marks.
Contemporary features include the original Blaupunkt Radio, which are so often replaced by aftermarket units that detract from the retro charm, and the original tool kit which sits complete in the boot lid inclusive of wheel brace and jack.
