Subaru Legacy GT Turbo – The Legacy of a Rally Legend
The story of Subaru’s global rally dominance began right here. This is the model that put Subaru on the map, driven by the legendary Colin McRae during his dominant 1992 British Rally Championship (BRC) campaign. While many associate Subaru with the Impreza, it was the Legacy RS Turbo that laid the foundation for the 555 era.
Today, the Legacy RS/ GT Turbo is significantly rarer than its successor, making it a high-value prize for serious collectors and JDM enthusiasts.
History & Provenance
Hungarian Heritage: This vehicle was first registered in Hungary in 1992 and has remained in the country ever since—a rare feat for a Japanese performance icon.
Mechanical Heart: Powered by the legendary EJ20 engine producing 220 horsepower. It has recently passed technical inspection and holds a valid MOT.
Documentation: Comes with two keys (service book is no longer available).
Condition & Interior
Bodywork: The chassis is in good condition, and the undercarriage is free from corrosion. There is minor surface rust on the lower edges of the two rear doors.
Interior: Remarkably well-preserved for its 33-year age. The seats offer excellent lateral support, with only a tiny tear (1x0. 5 cm) on the front passenger backrest.
Steering: Upgraded with a genuine Subaru Nardi sport steering wheel for a more authentic driving feel.
Significant Technical Upgrades
This Legacy has been tastefully modified to enhance its rally-bred DNA:
Performance: Equipped with a full stainless steel exhaust system and a programmable ECU for optimized power delivery.
Braking System: A massive upgrade featuring WRX calipers, ventilated DBA brake discs, Project MU brake pads, and Apex Teflon braided brake lines.
Handling: Built for the curves with Bilstein shock absorbers and Strongflex polyurethane bushings.
Wheels: Fitted with 15-inch rally-style wheels that complete the aggressive aesthetic.
Reliability & Investment Potential
The car has been meticulously maintained and is reliable enough for daily use. During its most recent service, the engine oil, transmission oil, and air filter were replaced, alongside a full vehicle health check.
