One of the thirteen 1956 Fordson Thames 500e Firefly appliances. Ordered by the Ministry of Supply with bodies by Wadham Brothers in Waterlooville, they were built on a three ton chassis, and fitted
with a diminutive ‘cost cutter’ 4-cylinder OHV petrol engine of 3, 611cc and were perhaps somewhat ambitiously designated as pump foam tenders (P/ FoT). However, these diminutive appliances only carried 150 gallons of water and 36 gallons of foam compound in a separate tank, along with a Coventry Climax major pump.
This lovely vehicle all works as it should it Starts first time, Runs just fine, Drives and Stops as it should. So really it's a case of buy it and use it.. It is all ready to be enjoyed by a new owner.
It has been well looked after during his ownership. Six new period tyres were fitted (Imported from the USA) recently.
The roof could do with a fresh coat of paint and maybe a little t-cut here and there.
But as you can see in the photos it is very presentable as it is.
This really is a solid old lovely period vehicle.
All the equipment and accessories you can see pictured come with it, including Brass Pyrene foam branch pipe nozzle (type F. B. 2.), London nozzle, Brass Pyrene fire extinguisher, Brass backpack tank, etc, basically everything in the photo plus the original ladders fitted as pictured on the tender.
There is another hose reel in one of the lockers included which is the same as the one pictured.
There are probably going to be people out there that know a lot more about these or this particular vehicle than me.

PGK 753 was originally based at the National Physics Laboratory at Teddington and remained there in service until December 1989 Then this beautiful historic tender went on to stay with the Fire Service National Museum in Northhants where it remained until 2013 then sold to it first private owner, in Redhill who owned it for 2 years until 2015.
Current keeper (Family member) has owned it from 2015 to present day.
