Description
Ignore all of the listing details regarding engine and gearbox etc... Obviously they are not relevant to a caravan
After five and a half years of happy ownership we are selling our 1978 Eriba Triton as we are upsizing to a Hymer Feeling caravan
The van is dry and solid and everything works as it should
When we first bought her we found some minor corrosion to the outer rail of the chassis that we had professionally cut out and new metal welded in place. The box section was then injected with waxoyl to prevent further corrosion from within.
New old stock (N. O. S.) rear lights were fitted a couple of years ago along with new side markers so all external lighting works perfectly.
The front hitch works AOK and has always been greased each year. The brakes and handbrake work AOK also. Tyres are in good condition along with the wheels and wheel trims. It’s a delight to tow - only just wider than the car - and easy to manoeuvre by hand if you wish once you are at your pitch.
We have replaced the pop top material (with a new one from ‘Matt’s Pop Tops’), head lining and handles a couple of years ago. At the same time I refurbished the hinges, springs and hold down catches so they operate and look great.
The outside has a few small age related knocks and scrapes (it is nearly 50 years old !) but nothing terrible, with the lower half being repainted at some point before we purchased it
I have refurbished the interior lights so they look like new and at the same time swapped the bulbs for warm glow LEDs to reduce the battery drain to a minimum. Additional 12v sockets were also installed so now there are plenty of charging points for mobile phones etc plus a 12v cigarette lighter type socket for things such as 12v vacuum cleaners. There is alos a display showing the current voltage level of the battery. The battery can be charged from outside the van using a charger or connected to a solar panel so no need to lift the bed to connect. The 240v input into the van has been swapped for a UK standard so no Euro adapter has to be used. There are five 240v sockets dotted around the van so plenty plug in kettles, toasters etc
Talking of toast - we have never cooked anything in the van except toast so no greasy marks or lingering smells. All cooking is done outside by us but there are two gas rings in the kitchen unit if you wish to use them. The kitchen also has a 240v or gas powered fridge with a small freezer compartment - perfect for ice cubes ! A small sink and electric tap complete the kitchen unit.
There is plenty of storage in the van, be it overhead lockers, a wardrobe, under seat storage, space under the bed and a space where the gas heater used to be located (under the wardrobe). We replaced the curtains when we purchased it as the others were pretty worn and sun bleached. I think the interior cushions have been replaced at some point but I’m not 100% on that. They are very funky/ retro !. There is plenty of storage space under the van if required - the waterproof skirt (matches the pop top) that we had made keeps everything dry and out of sight and stops draughts coming under the van into the awning area.
The van sleeps three. The rear seats make a huge double bed that is VERY comfortable (we always use mattress toppers from Dunhelm) and we leave it in this configuration permanently as we have the seating area at the front to eat meals/ play cards etc. The front table area also converts to a single large enough for a child/ small adult although we’ve never had cause to use it like this.
All in all a lovely van that you can use straight away and always attracts admiring looks as you tootle down the motorway or when you are pitched up on site.
We think that she’s worth £5, 500 ono and is available to view in Stoke on Trent (ST9 postcode)
Message or call me if you wish to discuss, arrange a viewing or need specific details/ photos.
