Description
1998 Jaguar XKR 4. 0 Supercharged with 12 months MOT (no advisories).
I am selling my 1998 Jaguar XKR, finished in Antigua Blue metallic with the Oatmeal/ Antelope leather interior. I have owned the car for over five years, and in that time, I’ve focused on keeping it in great mechanical condition, spending c.£6k on maintenance and preventative work over the last 9, 000 miles. I’ve known the car for nearly a decade, as I purchased it from the father of a friend. I am a member of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club.
Key Information:
Mileage: 70, 749 (this will go up slightly as it's used occasionally).
MOT: Brand new, and valid until 6 April 2027 with No Advisories. (Last 3 MOTs passed with no advisories).
Number Plate: The cherished plate J80 XKR is included.
Service History: Most recently serviced by Jagtechnic in Eastbourne (May 2025 at 69, 747 miles). The car has regular service history and more information can be provided on request.
Mechanical & Bodywork
The early 4. 0 V8 cars have a few well-known weak points, but this car has had work done to mitigate them:
Engine/ Gearbox: Upgraded tensioners have been fitted. It also has the stronger Mercedes-Benz gearbox (standard on the R model), which was serviced with an oil change at 61, 000 miles. I will include enough ATF for the new owner to complete a future oil change should they wish.
Common Faults: The ABS control unit has been rebuilt in 2022 (£600), and the air conditioning was completely overhauled by the previous owner - it blows ice cold.
Rust Mitigation: I’ve had significant work done by a local body shop to keep the sills in good order, including new front sills in May 2025 (£1, 600) and rear sill repairs in 2022 (£900). The body shop took photos of the work which I have and can pass to the new owner.
Comes with two sets of keys plus the valet key.
I’ve tried to continue the approach of the previous owner and maintain the car as needed irrespective of cost. A few things I've had done:
October 2025: New supercharger coolant pipes (£160)
May 2024: Rear discs, pads, and OSR caliper (£600).
March 2023: Brand new OEM alternator (£600).
Tyres: Avon ZV7s all round with plenty of tread. Rears are c. 3, 900 miles old replaced in 2024; fronts have done c. 7, 900 miles replaced in 2022.
Condition
Cosmetically, the car presents very well. The interior is in good shape, and I’ve recently re-dyed the driver’s seat bolster with the correct Jaguar Oatmeal dye to keep it looking fresh: this is not a perfect job, although certainly makes the drivers seat look considerably better than most. I will include in the sale the correct filler and dye for the new owner.
Being nearly 28 years old, the paintwork is certainly not concours, and has a few marks: in particular some stone chips/ light scratches on the bonnet, a minor scrape on the rear bumper, some scratches on the boot lid and a few marks elsewhere (see pictures). It would benefit from a professional machine polish to remove light swirling and other marks, although is certainly presentable as is and polishes up well. Please see photos which were taken in April 2026: I am being overly critical!
There is some corrosion blisters above the rear bumper on the nearside behind the rear wheel, again, see photo. This is very common on these, and not structural, altohugh a new owner may wish to have the work done. There is some underbody corrosion, as you would expect on any Jaguar of this age, though nothing that drew comment at the most recent or previous MOTs.
A stone chip to the windscreen has been professionally repaired, although still very visible, and passed the recent MOT.
In summary, this is a well-maintained XKR that is ready to be driven and enjoyed.
I will also include oil and filters, coolant, supercharger oil change kit, and a few other parts I have ready for the next interim service.
