Description
We are pleased to offer this 1960 Triumph TR3A Cabriolet, an iconic British-built roadster, cherished for its timeless styling, straightforward mechanics and authentic driving enjoyment.
This example stands out for its particularly meticulous presentation and harmonious configuration, pairing an elegant light blue shade with navy upholstery, complemented by a body-colour hard top, in perfect harmony with the spirit of the model. It is also equipped with overdrive and has a four-seat layout with rear bench, rare and appreciable on this type of car.
The car originates from California, where it was advertised as one-owner, before being imported to France in 2015. It has subsequently undergone a complete restoration entrusted to a French specialist workshop, carried out under a rigorous process.
The car was first fully dismantled, both inside and out, including all chrome, fittings, upholstery and carpets, with the mechanicals completely removed, including front and rear suspension, as well as the separation of the chassis and the body.
The bodywork was then stripped using a specific treatment, with rubbing, cleaning and zinc treatment, before being reworked in metalworking with forming, repairs to the necessary elements and alignment of all openings. Preparation was carried out with three coats of primer and intermediate sanding, followed by a full interior and exterior repaint in polished lacquer, giving a finish of very high quality today.
The interior was completely redone with full-grain leather upholstery, including the seats, trims and dashboard, as well as carpets with leather piping. The hood, tonneau cover and hood cover were also renewed, as was the hard top, in line with the vehicle’s configuration.
All chrome detailing was replated by bath using a traditional method, fully contributing to the car’s overall presentation quality.
The mechanicals were completely rebuilt, including the engine, gearbox and differential, with a full overhaul of the running gear as well as the braking system.
The car also benefited from a complete rewire, including all of the on-board instrumentation.
The full reassembly was carried out with new parts where necessary, stainless steel fixings new and components in keeping with the original. The car is fitted with 60-spoke chrome wheels with Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres.
The quality of this restoration allows today to present this TR3A in a concours-condition state, both aesthetically and mechanically.
The car has also been made more reliable and improved, with the installation of electronic ignition, an additional cooling fan, a higher-quality dynamo and a servo-assisted braking system, making its use more serene and enjoyable.
It has covered around 10, 000 kilometres since restoration, in the context of particularly careful use. Its previous owner, very meticulous, always took great care and particularly ensured not to drive it in the rain.
