Description
1978 Honda CBX 1000 (UK, Matching Numbers) – Highly Original, Long-Term Ownership
An increasingly rare opportunity to acquire a very original, early UK-supplied 1978 Honda CBX 1000, showing 25, 250 miles and retaining matching engine and frame numbers.
This is a particularly honest and unmolested example, notable for the level of originality it still retains. Details such as the original date-stamped brake lines, original wheel rims, and factory-stamped components including the side panels, indicators, headlight and front mudguard are all still present – features that are now seldom found and highly prized among CBX enthusiasts and collectors.
The engine runs well and the bike presents exactly as a well-preserved, usable example should.
The exhausts currently fitted are not original. However, I have sourced a correct set of original stamped Honda exhausts, which are available by separate negotiation (£2, 000 – the price I paid). This provides a straightforward route for the next owner to take the bike to an even higher level of originality if desired. The bike benefits from exceptional provenance. It was owned by the same keeper from 1983 through to 2022, during which time it formed part of a private collection and was stored within a museum environment alongside other motorcycles. This long-term custodianship helps explain both its condition and originality today.
I acquired the bike in 2022 from a short-term owner and it is now registered in my name with a current V5 present. In total, the bike has had 9 former keepers.
