“THE TRIUMPH DOLOMITE (1971-1980) IS A BRITISH LUXURY COMPACT VEHICLE NOTED FOR IT'S MICHELOTTI STYLING AND PERFORMANCE. THE DOLOMITE ALSO FEATURES SPORTY HANDLING & LUXURY WOOD TRIM INTERIOR ETC.”
THE TRIUMPH DOLOMITE WAS UNVEILED AT THE LONDON MOTOR SHOW IN OCTOBER 1971 AS THE SUCCESSOR FOR THE UPMARKET VARIANTS OF FRONT-WHEEL DRIVE DESIGNS, AND TO REPLACE THE SIX-CYLINDER TRIUMPH VITESSE, A SPORTING RELATIVE OF THE HERALD. IN KEEPING WITH THE SPORTING VIRTUES OF THE VITESSE, THE DOLOMITE WAS FITTED WITH A 1854cc 8 VALVE SLANT 4 ENGINE, MATCHED TO A STRONGBERG CARBURETTA. DUE TO A NUMBER OF STRIKES AND OTHER INDUSTRIAL UPSETS OF THE TIME, THE CAR WAS NOT REPORTED TO BE IN FULL PRODUCTION UNTIL OCTOBER 1972. THE NAME "DOLOMITE" HAD BEEN USED BY TRIUMPH FOR A RANGE OF MODELS PRIOR TO THE SECOND WORLD WAR AND THIS WAS REVIVED FOR THE NEW CAR. THE DOLOMITE USED THE LONGER BODYSHELL OF THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE TRIUMPH 1500, BUT WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE RUNNING GEAR CARRIED OVER FROM THE REAR-WHEEL DRIVE TRIUMPH TOLEDO.
INITIALLY, THE ONLY VERSION AVAILABLE USED THE NEW SLANT-FOUR 1, 854 CC ENGINE, WHICH MATED AN ALLOY OVERHEAD CAM (OHC) HEAD TO AN IRON BLOCK, PROVIDING 91 BHP (68 KW) WHICH OFFERS SPRIGHTLY PERFORMANCE. THIS WAS A VERSION OF THE ENGINE THAT THE COMPANY WAS ALREADY PROVIDING TO SAAB FOR USE IN THEIR 99 MODEL.
THE CAR WAS AIMED AT THE NEW COMPACT PERFORMANCE-LUXURY SECTOR, VYING FOR SALES AGAINST CARS SUCH AS THE BMW 2002 AND FORD CORTINA GXL, HOWEVER, OFFERED WITH A HIGH LEVEL OF STANDARD EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING TWIN HEADLAMPS, A CLOCK, FULL INSTRUMENTATION, LUXURY SEATS AND CARPETS, A HEATED REAR WINDOW, AND A CIGAR LIGHTER. GENERAL STYLING WAS SIMILAR TO THE TRIUMPH 1500, WITH SOME UPDATES SUCH AS A BLACK PAINTED REAR PANEL, VINYL D-POSTS, AND NEW WHEEL TRIMS. THE CAR WAS CAPABLE OF 100 MPH (160 KM/ H), WITH 60 MPH (97 KM/ H) COMING UP IN JUST OVER 11 SECONDS, THERE WAS ALSO AN OPTIONAL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SUCH AS THE CAR OFFERED HERE.

THE CHROME WORK IS VERY GOOD AS ARE THE ORIGINAL WHEELS AND TRIMS SITTING ON MATCHING TYRES WITH AMPLE TREAD. THE DOLOMITE IS AND HAS BEEN FOR SOME TIME NOW, PART OF A COLLECTION OF CLASSICS KEPT AND MAINTAINED IN A HEATED & FULLY ENCLOSED WATER TIGHT ENVIRONMENT. IN RECENT YEARS IT HAS BEEN USED SPARINGLY AND ONLY IN DRY WARM WEATHER.
AS STATED, THIS STUNNING & ORIGINAL TRIUMPH DOLOMITE 1850 HL AUTO IS IN SUPER ALL ROUND ORIGINAL CONDITION. THE CAR DRIVES AND STOPS GREAT, AND SO MUCH FUN, TURNING HEADS WHEREVER IT TRAVELS AND NO WONDER GIVEN THE VERY FEW EXAMPLES OUT THERE AND WITH THE CAR HAVING RETAINED ITS ORIGINAL BEAUTIFUL APPEARANCE & CONDITION.
THE INTERIOR IS ALSO OF EXTREMELY GOOD ORDER, ORIGINAL, CLEAN AND UNCLUTTERED. THERE ARE NO UNSIGHTLY TEARS, SCUFFS OR MARKS, SIGNS OF HEAVY WEAR OR DISCOLORATION. ALL IS IN TACT, FUNCTIONING AS INTENDED, COMFORTABLE AND VERY PLEASANT TO THE EYE.
THE CHASSIS AND UNDERCARRIAGE IS CLEAN AND SOLID IN ALL AREAS, AS ARE THE FLOOR PANS ETC. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ROT/ RUST ANYWHERE.
THE BOOT - AGAIN VERY CLEAN, SOLID AND UN-CLUTTERED.
ENGINE BAY - AS PER THE BOOT.
ENGINE - THE ENGINE IS RELIABLE AND RESPONSIVE, STARTS FIRST TIME OF ASKING EVERY TIME. IT SOUNDS GREAT-SUPER QUIET ON IDLE AND THROUGH THE AUTO GEARBOX AND EXHAUST SYSTEM.
TRANSMISSION - THE AUTOMATIC GEAR BOX IS LIKE THE ENGINE, AGILE, RESPONSIVE AND SMOOTH TO THE CHANGE.
