Description
MGB Roadster 1970, first registered in March 1971, Bronze Yellow, 88000 miles, overdrive, 2 owners from new. The car was build in 1970 as one of the very last of the series 2 model and sold new by Wheels Of Woking in March 1971.
I bought this car from the first owners in May 2002 with 74500 miles. They were selling the car after 31 years as the wife had to move on to a car with power steering due to progressing arthritis in her hands.
The car was refurbished by them in 1988 with new lower quarter panels, door skins and castle sections and re-painted in the original bronze yellow and sparingly used by him after that. Apart from some small touch up’s - that is the paintwork the car is still wearing today.
The car hence has a few blemishes but is overall very presentable and turns heads
Shortly after buying the car I noticed the car was losing coolant, so went to overhaul the engine, assuming that the coolant loss was the head gasket or a core plug- it was unfortunately a crack in the engine block. So I installed an overhauled Ivor Searle engine. As the engine was out anyway, I also refurbished the gearbox and overdrive with new bearings, synchro’s, seals, clutch etc. Also replaced/ overhauled the braking system, dampers, suspension bushes, cooling system, alternator, radiator etc. The chrome wheels were also added at that time- new from the MGOC.
In 2003 I drove the car in a non stop 900 mile run to Cannes, picked up my wife there and we then proceeded to the Mille Miglia in Italy, covering about 3000 miles on the trip with no faults other than a loose battery earth connection and the faulty brake light switch.
Years later I gradually replaced the starter motor, fitted electronic ignition and refurbished the carburettors- I basically repaired all issues as and when they started to emerge. The brakes were serviced with new shoes, rear cylinders, drums and front pads about a year ago. Also last year I found a very good set of LE leather seats and swapped them for the original vinyl seats that had started to crack on the driver side.
This year, in preparation for the sale, all oils were changed
I have pictures of the car in 1974 and 1991 as well as a stack of invoices and MOT’s from the previous owners to verify the mileage as well as a document of the final payment settling the finance in 1974, stating the mileage then as 25000
I am selling the car because I have too many bikes and cars and not enough time at the moment to use them all so one bike and one car must go.
Viewings are welcomed by appointment
PS: The car has always lived in a dehumidified garage alongside other classics during my ownership.
