This is a unique car with a fantastic story.
In 1986 this vehicle was purchased new by a prominent businessman & politician in Malaysia.
The vehicle was moved to his central London home in the late 80’s and used by his son (later to become the CEO of AIG Insurance group).
The vehicle was maintained without regard to cost exclusively at Mercedes Main Dealers until 2001, as you will see from the below history.
The son was called back to Malaysia as a result of his fathers sad passing in 1999. Soon after, the vehicle was stored away with a friend in Cambridge.
In 2004 the vehicle was gifted to a distinguished senior Fellow of Cambridge university.
Dr S then used one garage to look after the cars from 2004 – 2025. Every receipt and email present!
Within the history folder of this car, not only do we have very single maintenance receipt (summarised below), but the vast file contains every piece of correspondence from when Dr S was acquiring the car to when it was sold to me last year.
It is a fascinating read, particularly the letters begging pardons from the Cambridgeshire constabulary for breaking the speed limit on not one, but two concurrent occasions!
This car is not only metal and plastic, it has a really fascinating history.
When I came across this car, I knew it could not fall into the wrong hands and purchased it immediately and embarked upon a program to bring the vehicle up to my own standards.
The vehicle had clearly been fantastically well looked after, however I planned on this being a forever car for me and so went a little “crazy” on it! My mantra is that I should be able to step into any of my cars and drive across the world without a moments hesitation.
Why am I selling then you may ask? Another car I have been hunting for years has finally come up for sale and I am simply out of space! I would not have this car stored outdoors and so, before I really form an emotional attachment to the car, I have decided to let someone else enjoy the fruits of my
labour.
The car drives fantastically well.

Items I have carried out
- Cen tre section of exhaust replaced with stainless steel
- New Genuine Mercedes A/ C Condenser, New A/ C Pump, New A/ C Drier Unit.
- Replaced heater blower motor (used), New Heater Resistor, carried out Mercedes recommended fuse upgrade & replaced A/ C Control unit (used).
- Carried out intensive service with every new fluid and filter including Brake Fluid, Differential Fluid, Engine Oil, Transmission Fluid, Suspension Fluid, Power Steering Fluid, Air Filter, Fuel Filter etc. New wiper blades.
- Replaced underbody sections of Fuel & Suspension pipework with Kunifer pipes.
- Complete underside and cavity protection in Dinitrol.
- New Transmission Oil Pan
- All New Fan Belts – Genuine Mercedes
- Replacement front left window motor
- Upgrade to all speakers whilst retaining factory wiring connections.
- New Spark Plugs, Rotor Arm, Distributor cap – All Genuine Mercedes
- Upgraded Magnecor Ignition Leads
- New Sunroof Seal
- New Mercedes Benz Battery & Painted/ Protected Battery Tray
- New Rain Water Drain Pipes – the ones that exit in front wheel arches
- New Lower Ball Joints
- New Front Wheel Bearings
- New Front ABS Sensors
- New Front Upper Suspension Arms
- Replaced worn interior wood trims with new (or better used ones depending on availability)
- Grease sunroof parts
- Clean Dash Binnacle and Paint Needles
- Four New Uniroyal Tyres
- Anything else that I noticed as I was going along was taken care of!
