Description
979 BMW R100RS – Restored, Great Usable Classic, Striking Gold Finish
A lovely example of the iconic 1979 BMW R100RS, recently brought back to life after a long period off the road and now ready to be enjoyed.
This bike has been restored to a good, usable standard and presents very well in a non-standard but eye-catching gold respray. It’s not a concours machine, but it’s a smart, honest classic that looks great and runs just as it should.
Since recommissioning, the bike has only been used on a couple of short rides and performs well, with the engine running smoothly and reliably.
Recent work and upgrades include:
Full service (all fluids and filters replaced)
Fork overhaul
New battery
Easy clutch fitted (makes a big difference to usability)
Surefoot side stand upgrade
Many fasteners replaced with stainless steel items
I originally carried out this work with the intention of keeping the bike long term. Unfortunately, due to the narrow handlebars, I’ve been unable to fit an adaptation I need to comfortably operate the rear brake. As a result, I’m reluctantly offering it for sale.
The R100RS is a true classic – one of the first production bikes with a full fairing designed for high-speed touring – and remains a fantastic ride today.
This is a great opportunity to own a usable and well-sorted example that you can ride and enjoy straight away. Ideal for someone looking for a classic BMW that’s ready to go, rather than a project or a museum piece.
Condition: Good overall, nicely presented
Running: Yes, runs well
Use: Light use since restoration
A very honest and attractive classic that’s ready for the road. 1979 BMW R100RS – Restored, Great Usable Classic, Gold Finish, With BMW Panniers

History is limited, as the previous long-term owner sadly passed away, after which the bike had been laid up for many years before being recommissioned.
