The Overview
I’ve owned this 4. 6 Vogue since 2019. He’s a strong runner that turns heads and has plenty of power. I’m only selling because my mobility and time aren't what they used to be, and these P38s deserve someone who can stay on top of the "preventative" side of things.
Engine & Mechanicals (The Good Bits)
Thor 4. 6L Engine: Runs wonderfully.
Suspension: Converted to coil springs just before my ownership.
Top End Overhaul: In Jan 2021 (£1, 500), I had the head gaskets done by a 4x4 specialist, heads refaced, and exhaust manifolds/ heat shields sorted. No engine issues since.
Gearbox: Automatic transmission with no issues at all.
Fuel: Only ever run on E5 petrol during my time.
MOT: December 2026.
The "P38 Charms" (The Known Issues)
I want to be 100% honest; so no one's time is wasted:
Speedo/ Mileage: The mph/ speedo currently doesn’t work. It’s a wiring/ comm issue between the dash and BECM—not the gearbox or wheels.
The "Jump": I tried to sync the mileage using a Nanocom, but it leaped up to 200k. Based on MOT history and invoices since 2013, I estimate the true mileage is around 170, 000.
EML: The light comes on occasionally because the dash and BECM see the mileage discrepancy. It doesn't affect the drive and can be cleared with a standard OBD reader.
Electrics: Heated seats are out, the rear heated screen is out, and the N/ S rear window is out.
Battery: We all know P38s love a flat battery. I’ve added a filter to stop WiFi signals from "waking" the BECM and disconnected the sub/ CD changer to prevent drain. New battery fitted 28th March. Third since 2019.
Service: He’s due an oil change last done 2024.
Provenance & Paperwork
Records: I have a folder of paperwork going back to 2013, plus the service book and handbook
Reg: Been on J5VBL since I bought him (Originally RL51DWM). Check the history on Vehicle Smart to see the mileage/ MOT consistency.
Price & Contact I’m asking £1, 500. I’ve spent a significant amount on him, and he’s a great truck for someone who knows how to tinker with the P38's electrical quirks.
No time-wasters or silly offers, please. I’ve had my fill of eBayers not turning up. If you're a genuine P38 fan, come and have a look.
