Description
A 1962 Jaguar Mk2 3. 4 in Gun Metal grey, one of the most handsome colour combinations you'll find on one of Britain's most iconic classic saloons. The interior is finished in period light blue-grey leather, still spotless after a full retrim, and the contrast between the two is genuinely stunning. She turns heads wherever she goes.
Built in 1961 and first registered in Cardiff in 1962, this is a genuine RHD, UK-origin car with a 20-year documented history file and a heritage certificate confirming correct paint and trim. The car remained in the UK until 2017, when a previous owner imported it to Germany. It has recently moved with me to Vienna, where it is currently unregistered - please see the buyer information section below.
The previous owner invested more than €15, 000 in the car, including structural welding, engine work, and the full leather retrim. She is in good, driveable condition and will have been freshly serviced before handover.
I bought her last year as a treat when I moved to Austria, and she has been everything I hoped for. Sadly, a project I simply cannot walk away from means the Jaguar must find a new home. This is a genuinely reluctant sale. The Jaguar heritage certificate is held, and will be shared with serious buyers upon request, and this confirms the correct factory paint and trim specification. A substantial history file spanning approximately 20 years accompanies the car, documenting significant expenditure - far more than can be summarised here.
The engine is not numbers-matching. It is, however, a period-correct unit from another Mk2, confirmed by the engine number, and has been in the car for many years. It runs well, with even compression across all cylinders and strong pull even under load. The engine swap was carried out in the UK, though no documentation of this exists.
Condition notes:
- Chrome: complete and free from rust, but with some pock marks, see photos
- Wood trim: good condition throughout, and the doors, dash, and glove compartment all present and intact. The top of the dash has a small split, see photos. Given the cost of Mk2 wood trim, the fact that it is complete and requiring only minor attention is a real positive
- Leather: full retrim in period light blue-grey = spotless
- Bodywork: structural welding carried out by previous owner as part of the €15000+ investment
- Bodywork: The car presents well overall, but as is typical for a 62-year-old British classic, there are multiple areas of surface rust that will require attention. These are clearly shown in the photos. None of the areas observed represent structural concerns, this is cosmetic.
Buyer Information:
For UK buyers:
This is a RHD, UK-origin car, registered in Cardiff from new, it was never left-hand drive. Re-importing to the UK is straightforward: NOVA notification to HMRC on arrival, then a standard DVLA re-registration application. Classic cars over 10 years old do not require an IVA test, and as an EU import, only 5% VAT applies with zero import duty. The heritage certificate and 20-year history file will support the process considerably.
For Austrian/ EU buyers:
A 1962 Jaguar Mk2 is an excellent candidate for historic vehicle registration (Historisches Fahrzeug) in Austria — which brings real benefits: no NoVA tax, biennial rather than annual roadworthiness checks, and exemption from certain driving restrictions. The process involves presenting the car to the regional Landesprüfstelle with supporting documentation. I am happy to assist a buyer navigate this process.
