Excellent underside and superb overall condition
The car presents beautifully overall. The underside is immaculate and clearly shows the level of care and restoration work carried out over the years. The bodywork still looks fantastic, although there are a few age-related blemishes as the paint is now around 20+ years old.
The roof is in excellent condition with no rips or tears, and the black leather interior is lovely throughout. The seats in particular are impeccable.
Mechanically, it starts instantly on the button every time and runs and drives well. However, it does require the main oil seal replacing, and this is the reason for sale. I simply do not have a garage space to undertake the work myself and the wait to do the work exceeds my desires. It is not considered a particularly difficult job on these cars — approximately a 6-hour task all in. If one of the garages manages to fit me in sooner, I will remove the car from sale.
I bought the car to enjoy this summer, having always loved early Fiats, and it really is a delightful thing to drive and own.
Recent & Historical Work Includes:
- Reconditioned steering box
- Partial engine refresh
- New cylinder head gasket
- Bores honed
- Fresh piston rings
- Carburettor refurbishment
- Gearbox refurbishment
- Wiring attention
- Dynamo and starter motor work
- Full restoration circa 2002
- Re-trimmed in black leather
The car has also had indicators added for safer modern road use, with the original semaphores disconnected.
The dashboard was painted light blue by a previous owner, which is slightly unusual.
First registered to Manchester County Council in 1937, the car later moved to Devon and passed through several enthusiastic owners before undergoing restoration work in the late 1990s/ early 2000s.
Following the passing of owner John Evans in 2001, the restoration was completed by marque specialist Steve Denning.
The car later featured in a July 2008 Buxton auction where it achieved over £11, 700, and again at H&H Classics in 2017, where it sold into a significant private collection alongside Bugattis and W. O. Bentleys.
A rare chance to acquire a highly collectible, pre-war Italian classic with fantastic provenance, huge charm and genuine usability.
Viewing is very welcome and advised.
