1998 Factory Built Caterham 1. 8 K Series SuperSport specification / build.
Comissioned and bought new from Caterham in 1998 by its first owner, copy of the original bill of sale is in the extensive file of paperwork as well as all the options ticked. Owned from new for approx. 16 years, briefly then owned by somebody who was going to export it and then decided against it and then owned until this year by its third (essentially second) owner since 2014 who spent fortunes on the car as per all the below listed work. I bought it a few months back and have decided that I love it so much I’m going to build my own 420R! So, this lovely example can go to a new owner to enjoy! And enjoy it they will!
• Mileage – 41, 051.
• Jaguar Green (slightly darker than the BRG) and yellow nose cone / stripe.
• Black leather interior and red 4-point harness.
• Prisoner alloys
• 6 speed gearbox
• Full weather protection
• Large box of bits / spares such as side mirrors and wind deflectors if you take the doors off,
• luggage rack, spare new clutch and throttle cable…etc…
• New tyres all round – about 300 miles ago.
Engine has been re-built entirely in the last owners possession, open cheque book each time it has gone into the garage and the previous owner took the view that each time work was carried out he would upgrade to better specifications and it shows! This thing was dyno tested last year at 176 BHP after the comprehensive engine rebuild and it spins up fantastically on Cam (Piper Race Cams now fitted!)
It has had the following: -
• Wossner forged con rods and pistons
• Lightweight flywheel
• Piper race cams
• VVC delete and Veneer pulleys
• Emerald K6 ECU
• Triple core alloy radiator (new this year – zero miles)
• Brose starter motor
• 4 – 1 exhaust
• Quick rack steering rack
• Big brake disc conversion (front)
• New Emerald wiring loom for K series engines
• New fuel tank
• New front suspension
• Door arm rests
• Tunnel bag
I will add that in my own limited time of ownership I have just fitted a new battery and I also fitted a Caterham drivers seat rebuild kit as the plastic backing had gone and the bolster was sagging. It’s now immensely comfortable and supportive! She is due an MOT and I am happy to get that done prior to new owner taking possession.
She is priced extremely keenly so please don’t contact me unless you are serious, as I won’t respond to silly insulting offers, and won’t except anything other than a VERY close offer to the asking price.
