This is a permanent 4-wheel drive, 4-speed manual with a 5th "G" gear (Gelaende) which equates to a low range off-road steep climb and descent gear.

Purchased 2016 with 178, 000km in Germany and registered in Lower Saxony. Imported to the UK in 2020 and now has 219, 000km.

This vehicle was formerly a city works vehicle for the town of Luenen, Germany. Built on the 31st of August 1990, it was first delivered to the client on 9 October 1990.

It was later a communications vehicle in Bochum, Germany.

The truck is very much a pedigree vehicle with clean a German heritage and the documentation to accompany.

The vehicle drives like new and is quiet and smooth.

The interior is in near showroom condition and features the original floor matting front and rear as well as new upholstery by VW Germany.

The Blaupunkt tape deck was at some point changed, the original was a Freiburg SQR 39 and the current is a Trier SQM 27. The original Freiburg owner's manual comes with the documentation. There is a single mono speaker. (new stereo speaker provided)

The clock's digital display functions but requires replacement (part provided)

The lighter and ashtray are new. The 12V lighter provides plenty of power for charging phones and accessories.

The treasure chest and under bench tool storage areas have been fitted with new thick vehicle carpeting with whipped edging.

It has an original VW trailer hitch with 7-pin connector.

It has original VW rear slide windows and front opening triangle windows.

The instrument panel has the much desired tachometer and all interior illumination is fully functional.

The front grill has the original extra large and ultra rare 12cm VW badge.

Transmission and differential were build in Austria by Steyr Puch and assembled in Westfalen, Germany. The door sticker badges are from its last posting in Lower Saxony.

Rear mud flaps are original and front mud flaps and fog lights were removed at some point in its life.

It has only been off-road in local fields nearby and of course on the roads of Devon which are in many cases not really roads after all but rather more similar to walled chasms.

There is a recently installed (2025) Bosch battery(S4 005 12V 540A) neatly tucked away behind the passenger seat.

——————————————————————————————————ADDENDUM
This VW seats 6 persons and is ideal for both rugged landscapes and motorway cruising.

It makes a perfect practical classic as it can be used for a trip to the tip, the garden centre, to move furniture or to drive to the ends of the earth.

Extremely reliable over the years, it has been back and forth across the Channel several times, and down to Cornwall and Devon many times.

The ideal cruising speed is 100 kmh at 3000 rpm and it will easily pass a lorry at 120kmh, except on a steep uphill of course.

It has fantastic 360 visibility and the extra large truck mirrors came standard.

The heating system works effectively in the coldest temperatures. Ventilation from the side, triangle and rear window sliders keeps the cab fresh even on the hottest days of summer.

There is ample storage under the rear seat and full dual-access storage under the pick-up bed known as the "Tresor" or treasure chest in Germany as is perfectly designed to store gear and valuables.

The interior of the pick-up bed measures 1750mm by 1870mm.

Vehicle height with antenna folded down is 2180mm.

There in an original VW flip-down step on the rear tailgate for climbing into the bed area.

Also, as an option you may purchase a Thule VeloCompact 2-Bike towbar carrier for GBP 250 if you need to take your bikes with you.

Except for one winter in 2020, it has always been garaged for winter. It has a few aesthetic rust spots and some paint lift. These can be found in the usual spots (wheel foot well/ steps and seams). I have kept a close eye on these and treated them with rust retardant and grease however they will need attention in future.

The undercarriage was treated with a rubberised anti-rust treatment and has remained in excellent condition. The engine and transmission are dry.

There is a 2 cm lift kit installed and can be legally upgraded to 3cm in Germany. If you are a buyer anywhere else in the world you may lift however high you wish, which may be relevant if your intent is to use the truck for serious off-road adventures.

On July 20th, it had an oil change (Fuchs Titan Formula 15W-40) as well as air and oil filter change (MANN).

On the topic of paint colour. It was originally German Industry grey Paint code: L345

It was repainted in 2017 by VW Starke Osnabruck in a custom beige. For respray or touch-ups, a standard spectrophotometer will match it.

The vehicle comes with a twelve month UK MOT which is scheduled for August 10th.

Finally , I would like to thank the following gentlemen for the re-conditioning of this German engineering wonder, here they are:

Bernd Jaeger (mybusparts. de)
Harald felker (starke-autos. de)
Jon and Ash Vipond (coastvw. co. uk)
