Mercedes 206D camper (Bariban) 1978It is with a degree of regret that I am offering my camper for sale. I bought it in summer 2020 and although we have made some very memorable trips, it has been used relatively little due to work and family commitments (we have only added just over 3000 miles in that time) It was advertised in 2020 as the very best example of the model and this was very accurate. It features a remarkable originality. The quality of the engineering is first rate and I have found many contributors who say the camper conversion work by Bariban (a Mercedes authorised company I believe) is second to none. During my ownership it has only been used on the road in the warmer months, kept in a secure barn at other times. Usually every week or so it has been started and warmed up and driven around (either dry roads or the barn) to keep everything free and healthy. It has demonstrated bullet proof reliability and returned a genuine fuel economy of over 30 miles per gallon. It does not noticeably consume any oil. The body work and paintwork is generally very good with no evidence of corrosion, there are some paintwork scuffs which will require attention to qualify it as perfect. The work I have done includes the following - Refurbished all the steering mechanism and componentsRefurbished – the full braking mechanism – including the master cylinder. The drum shoes are virtually brand new. Replaced the shock absorbersRevised the rear seating layout (using a local upholsterer) to allow the fitting of 4 no rear seat belts – to make it a practical 6 seater (my grandchildren love travelling in her)Any other service and maintenance work as required. It will come with a good selection of spares/ technical manuals and many very useful items and equipment from the kitchen and the storage areas. It is time for it to pass to a new custodian who may have the time and enthusiasm to allow it to be used as it should be, there are many years of great travelling to come from this camper. I had wanted to experience the joys of travelling and camping in a unique and charismatic classic vehicle. Every trip we have made has been a true joy, whether for various overnight stays or for day trips (usually to the beach) with the family, grandchildren and dogs. It attracts great attention and often starts conversations with admirers and enthusiasts. I have been more than impressed with the quality and reliability of everything and it does drive and cruise with comfortable ease.
