Description
1967 AEC Routemaster RML – Professionally Converted Fish & Chip Restaurant & Hospitality BusinessAn exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire a genuine 1967 AEC Routemaster RML that has been transformed into one of Britain’s most distinctive hospitality and mobile catering businesses. Originally built as one of London’s iconic Routemaster buses, this historic vehicle underwent an extensive 18-month conversion into a fully equipped fish & chip restaurant, combining heritage engineering with commercial practicality. The result is a truly unique vehicle that has become a popular attraction at weddings, festivals, private functions, corporate events and visitor attractions. Unlike many catering vehicles, this Routemaster offers a complete customer experience. The lower deck houses a professional commercial kitchen centred around a Preston & Thomas three-pan frying range, while the beautifully presented upper deck provides seating for approximately 28 diners, with potential to increase capacity to around 36. My late husband, Alan, had a lifelong passion for engineering and creating things that were a little different. Before embarking on this project, we spent over 36 years building and restoring mechanical organs that were exported all over the world. When he turned his attention to the Routemaster, he approached it with the same attention to detail and craftsmanship. The vision wasn’t simply to create another catering vehicle. It was to create an experience that people would remember. The result was a genuine 1967 Routemaster transformed into a fully equipped fish & chip restaurant, complete with a commercial kitchen downstairs and an atmospheric dining room upstairs. What makes it so special is that it still feels like a Routemaster. The character and charm of the original bus have been carefully preserved while creating a practical hospitality business that has delighted customers at weddings, festivals, private events and public gatherings. My favourite part has always been the upper deck. Watching families and friends enjoying fish and chips whilst sitting in the front seats looking out through the iconic Routemaster windscreen is something quite unique. It always brought smiles to people’s faces and created an experience that simply can’t be replicated by a conventional catering van. It is now time for the bus to begin its next chapter, and we hope it finds an owner who will appreciate not only the opportunity it offers, but also the passion, craftsmanship and thought that went into creating it.
