Description

SOLD TO SECOND VIEWER - I TOLD YOU IT WAS A GOOD BARGAIN!!!!! *** CLEAR MOT 11 AUGUST 2026: NO ADVISORIES*** HOW GOOD IS THAT FOR A 47 YEARS OLD MGB??? SOLID, NO FILLER, RUNS GREAT, OVERDRIVE, ZIEBART RUSTPROOFED FROM NEW, VERY ORIGINAL, NOT MESSED WITH. GOOD CAR. BARGAIN. REDUCED FOR SUMMER SALE.

This is the POST 1976 model meaning that the initial rubber bumper handling issues which gave this model a slating in 1971 have been dealt with by factory suspension upgrades & a rear torsion bar from 1977 onwards cars.

I bought this on a whim as I had a 1979 one years ago and loved it.
See seller's advert attached from when I bought it. He owned it for 3 years purchasing it from, I believe, a deceased estate with only keys, V5 and valid clear MOT to hand. See 2021 clear MOT certificate.
He fitted electronic ignition, clutch, battery, 4 new tyres + service about 1000 miles ago. He'd broken his ankle and found it hard to drive hence his sale.
His advert states "never welded or filled" and I believe he's right. My local garage on for MOT stated :" very sound and solid- original car".
Probably due to the 1969 Ziebart optional extra rust proofing it received. See the rubber Ziebart grommets in the door shuts photos.
I was impressed with the solid originality and the smooth engine which is really peppy. Clutch appears new and precise with the overdrive smoothly into 3rd and 4th as it should. Gearbox fine too. It really is a superb driving car. Suspension, brakes etc excellent as proved by the clear MOT this month. Holds the road in a straight line with no vagueness. Appears to be a stainless exhaust. See photo.
Doors shut as they should with same panel gap all around.
Although it has had a respray in recent years, it was needing some love and affection when I bought it so I gave it a "right good fettling" all over which took 3 steady months whilst enjoying driving the car around Snowdonia.
I purchased the correct black colour paint and attended to the minor touching up [no filler] required. The only filler was to smooth over a 2" round surface rust section inside the boot whilst I Hammerited the inside of the boot as it has had 47 years of jack, tools, luggage etc scratching it. Before painting boot photo attached.
The car was then given a T Cut all over followed by a Turtle Waxing and now is in fine presentable order.
Parts of the respray had peeled in the engine bay, caused, I assume, by not degreasing the area thoroughly prior to painting. All now degreased and touched up in the same black gloss.
I also painted the engine in correct black heatproof enamel engine paint. Looks a treat now.
As usual when you buy a second hand car, there are those annoying minor faults which the previous owner put up with.
NOW, ALL dials, electrics, lights etc work correctly and it is a joy to be in.
Hood clamps, shiny new gear stick gaiter clamp, relays, etc fitted by me plus plus steering rack gaiters, new brake pipes, brake light switch, slightly binding front brake were sorted professionally this month prior to the MOT. Subsequent "NO ADVISORY" MOT 11 AUGUST 2026 which follows the previous clear MOT on 26 May 2021 with LESS THAN 2000 miles in the past 5 years.
I know that it is 47 years old and doesn't require an MOT. Here's evidence by an MOT tester confirming that the car is now roadworthy and safe.
So, you ask, why am I selling?
I've have a superb Morgan Plus 6 in my side garage. Also a superb 26 years old, well sorted, very chromed and shiny large Harley and a 2023 Triumph Speedmaster with touring accessories for my solo holidays. The MGB is hampering my use of these and it is too good to be under a cover on my drive in the forthcoming winter. I also play golf twice weekly, run, swim and have a wife to oblige!!!
Comes with handbook, DIY guide, V5 in my name at my home address, my receipts, 2 MOT's, the same key fits both doors and boot plus spare, spare ignition key, spare Red key for the anti theft battery isolator. Unused black paint. A few spares.
If you prefer vinyl seats you can buy a new MGB set on Ebay for £80. The existing original ones are great on hot days with no leg burning].
The hood with zip out rear window is in sound order with no leaks. Barely used tonnau with red piping and half zip. Spare wheel/ tyre/ jack spanner.
I'll even throw in the waterproof cover which I bought for it.
I'm 68 and can't abide unreliable transport hence my fastidious attention to this car and current MOT.
It is priced to be sold. It has passed a no advisory MOT, been serviced, had all apparent issues dealt with, is solid and drives a treat with no known issues.
In comparison to others on sale, it is a really genuine car so come and have an inspection and test drive. I'm sure you'll buy it over tea and biscuits!!!
I'm a decent retired guy in a decent neighbourhood & house. The type that they say that you should buy from.
All photos within last 3 months.

As stated, the mature , seemingly honest retired chap who I purchased it from owned it for a little over 3 years. When he purchased it, as I've stated, the service history couldn't be found. However, I went all over and under the car when I looked at it initially and was satisfied that it was a really genuine car.
My local established garage has been, on my request, all over it prior to the MOT and sorted anything the MOT required plus anything which they knew I'd require sorting.
I have the V5 in my name, 2021 previous clear MOT by a very reputable local garage and this month's MOT from the garage which I've been using for 30+ years on ALL of my varied cars.
Receipts too for the minor improvements / faults which I have dealt with.
I can't be more honest than that!!!
Come and have a look. Bring a magnet and a torch. If you've read other adverts with honest sellers stating that theirs need some "minor" repairs / welding etc, then you'll definitely be happy with this one.
Is it perfect? If it were then I'd be asking £10, 000 but I'm not here to waste my time and yours with false claims ending in disappointment. I've driven it 130 miles in a day around Snowdonia with absolutely no oil or water loss since I've owned it!!! Perfect oil pressure and temperature gauge. Its a bloomin' great car for the money!!!! Numerous other long drives too. Still using it so mileage will increase. Daft not to use it!!!.
Starts immediately from cold and hot as you'll hopefully find out.
I believe that this car requires no expenditure for a few years to come if maintained correctly. Tyres and battery nearly new.
REDUCED to sell and the new buyer can enjoy it before winter.
Thanks, Tony.
